Title: Someone dissed on my geo
Post by: urbanwheeler on March 21, 2006, 11:23:04 PM
I went on this other forum I used to frequent before I got my geo, and posted a topic saying how much better my geo is than the tercel4wd I used to own, which had 220,000 miles on it and smoked like a chimney, and how I put it on craigslist and some kids traded me an rc car for it. If I hadnt traded it, I would have had to pay someone to take it. Well anyways, one of the morons on the forum posted that it would outlast the geo tracker >:(. What an insult. I normally wouldnt be insulted, but that was just agravating, as a car with 220,000 miles on it and with problems in both the engine and drivetrain departments will not outlast a flawless (almost)trackick. I wouldnt doubt it that the tercel is probably already dead. The people on the forums of Tercel4wd.com all have their heads up their tercels a--. Every week, they are talking about how to keep a vehicle that toyota doesnt make the parts for anymore nor does it acknowledge that the vehicle exists running and on the road. Mine I bought for $500 and took it skiing once, and then decided that it wasnt fit for long trips when it was trying to stall about 80 miles from home. Then one time I was thrashing it through a neighborhood, and it stalled  >:( for no reason ???. all I could do is try to start it, and finally it did ;), but still, it failed my test of reliability. Either way, I am happy to be a suzuki driver, and a member of this awesome forum ;D.

 8) One day they to may have the privilage of learning the ways of the Zuk  8)

But untill then they will just sound stupid as they insult something they know nothing about. I have owned Toyota and they are awesome reilable vehicles. Mine lasted well over 200K miles until I ran it out of oil at 80 on the interstate :P Wait till you start going to off-roading events with one, that is where the comments realy start to fly  ::)

Man, dont listen to that, my little tracker had over 260k miles on it when I finally had to sell it(wife issues) and the biggest problem I had with it was only a wheel bearing failed. Now my Toyota it has been a good truck but has had a few more issues with it than my little geo ever had(I blame the v-6 in it). I loved hearing crap at wheeling events when I would be pulling it of the trailer and guys would be talking smack about it, then after the weekend when loading it up to go home, the same guys would be coming over saying how impressed they were of the little truck.  ;D

The problem with alot of fulks out there is....

that they think they know what they are talking about..

.these folks tend to talk about something as if it were fact because they belive they know it to be true...

where as people who know more about a specific topic don't say as much as they dont need to...they already know the truth..

I have had people offten times point out that my car looks like a smurf...

I call it a safety feature people can see me and are less likely to hit me

I have owned 5 toyota trucks ( all junkers :)) but I bought them as junk and drove them the same way, they all took more abuse than I ever expected.

I heard a story about a Heep guy laughing at a zuk guy , they made a bet that the zuki could not go as far as the Heep, so when the Heep stopped cause the trail got to narrow the sami pulled his mirrors in drove past him and said "YOU OWE ME  20 BUCKS" ;D ;D

Some times ignorence (selling?) is bliss $$$$$

 Steve. :)

I have owned(and still own) 2 toyota trucks, and both of them were very well made, but it just so happened that they both were worn out, and therefore they both broke. The tercel is much less reliable than the toyota truck. My moms friend had one, and it was having issues when it was probably 6-8 years old. The main problem with them is that the carburetor and emissions systems were sort of an overcomplicated afterthought. It also didnt help that the synchros and differential bearings were also poor in design and prone to breaking. The Samurai and trackick are much better engineered than the tercel4wd, and therefor they will last longer. Plus, I enjoy the Tracker more than I enjoyed the tercel(the tercel was a sort of family car from the 80s, as the tracker is more of an off road type vehicle that gets better mileage than the tercel 4wd)

I've now owned three first-gen Tracker two-doors and a '03 Grand Vitara.  You don't want to know how many times people have made "they flip" comments to me. ::)  Half of them probably don't even know that Consumer Reports was the source of that BS rumor. >:(

Last fall I got my second Tracker and a guy I worked with made fun of me.  I pointed out that it cost me $800 and it was all mine, how much were his payments on his 2005 Z71 and how much did he owe on it?  He didn't like the comparison. ;D
After I found out the block was cracked I got another ration of shit from him but I told him I had less than 4 months worth of payments on his truck into it. ;D
Then he had several issues pop up with his new truck and the local dealership gave him a load of shit about it all.  I pointed out my Tracker was just dead, wasn't costing me any money now.  Auto-Morbid humor that he didn't appreciate.  ;)
I got my '96 Tracker a few weeks ago and again, he put his foot in his mouth asking if it would run longer than the last one.  I asked him if his truck has given him any more trouble lately?
Then I pointed out that I still had less into BOTH Trackers than he was going to pay on his truck this year and still not own it. ;D

Do you know why toyota pickups that are thrashed command such a high price to obtain. The owners think that they will run forever, but I personally think that paying 2-5k for a truck that has been abused and has 250,000 on it is a bit much.

Only thing worse is heep owners , oh look its a cj-7 so what if there is no exhaust and floorboards are rusted clean thru I'll sell it to ya for 8500 bucks.. ???

Of course can't say a whole lot, guy yesterday wanted to buy my truck and told him wasnt selling but couldnt take a penny less than 4500. It's got trail rash and 213k miles on it, but 4 new tires/wheels and just went thru and rebuilt the motor last year(durn v-6 expensive sob). He kept saying I'll give you 1200 like I would actually WANT to loose money.

I guess I am sort of the same way with the tacoma with the blown engine. One time I was talking about it at a place I worked, and some white trash wanted me to knock it off for less than 5,000, but blue book value, even with a blown engine, was still a little over 7,000, and running, I could sell it for 10,000, even though replacing the engine would run from 2500 to 3000, plus the time it takes to do the swap, and other odds and ends that may need to be replaced. I figure that we might as well keep it as we bought it new in 1996, and since we took the depreciation hit of the first 3 years, it would be pointless to sell it, unless it is still worth 10,000 when it is 15 to 20 yrs old. I have also noticed that zukes are beginning to demand a premium in the area I live in. It is mostly because people like to tow them behind their motorhome, and finding one with low miles and not abused(the one I have) is a good find, and will usually get more money.

I love it. At my school, there are about 10 guys with built rigs... my samurai catches the most crap, yet I'm always the one who isnt stuck and is trying to help get the other guys out. There are 3 YJs, from 31"s-35"s, and not a one can hold a candle to my samurai. The first time out, one of the YJs with 33"s was following me through some ruts, he figured that if I could make it through on my 31" (now ive got swampers  ;D) all terrains, he would have no problems. He high centered right away and I spent the rest of the day trying to get him out and breaking ropes... all on ruts I didn't even rub on.

Then I caught flak from a V8 dakota on 35"s with a detroit in the rear, told him to follow me to the mudhole I made, and we took off. He probaly would have done better than me, mostly due to the locker and clearance, but he couldn't even make it there because of a tight squeeze between some trees. I'm chalking that one up as a win.

There is an F350 on 38"s that I've got more axle clearance than on 31"s, which is quite amusing as well.

Oddly it's usually trail newbies that only dis on Zuki's.  I find any Jeep/Toyota owner or anyone that actually trails a bit totally back-up and defend Suzuki trucks.  it's the ididots in stock Z71's, Hummer H2's or bone stock "un-lifted" Wranglers with 35's jammed (literaly) in the wheel wells..that have maybe gone down a dirt road or drove in snow in thier neighbohood or in the mountains that usually talk the most crap.

and because they are ignorant morons i usaully let them talk.  Because by them talking about my Zuk and what it can't do...they just let me know that they know nothing about off-roading at all.  So their ignorance only amuses me.

Yep,

I get the same thing...I got two guys I work with...One bought a rolled Jeep for 3500 with 10'' of lift and 35 boggers...then bought one for $500 to get the body...The little square ones...it's got 3.08 gears and no locker....And he said if we go wheeling he would pull me out....

The other has a toyota with 35's and stock everything else but lift.

My tracker has 33's,Lockright,skidplates,8000lb winch, and 14'' ground clearance to the frame...I have not wheeled it since all the mods, but I will soon know...I tried to tell them all the lift in the world does no good....the tires are what gets you off the ground...so they set up 1'' higher than my tracker...LOL

Last time I checked there wasnt a "blown Engine" option in KBB or NADA. even in "poor" condition the vehicle is expected to run.  I wouldnt pay that much for anything with a blown motor, but thats just me I buy most of my vehicles at police auctions anyways I just bought a 2001 Taco Prerunner that threw a rod,  but everything else is perfect for 500 bux so i would have a hard time paying 7000 bux for something that is blown up

To compensate for the idiots who don't know anything, I get 3x as many people who come up to me and make comments like "is it even possible to get that thing stuck?"

Last night I had a guy with a hugely lifted f150 on 37" swampers talk to me about wheeling for 15 minutes  outside a gas station at 2 AM... pulled up an said "Those little things can root, can't they?" It was pretty cool.

I need to hit up police auctions ;D. Just dont want to pick up a low rider, because the guy who is in jails homies might chase you while driving it ;). The option I chose on ebay was in the customisable condition(the checklist) I checked for the engine "repair or replace". they have since redone the blue book website, so I dont know if it is the same anymore.

maybe they should have bought some 15 or 16 inch rims with 35s instead of the 20 inch G wheels with the rubber band thickness low profile tires ;D
