I have a 1990 sami with 6.5" SPOA 8) lift and 15x8 rock crawler rims. I am looking for 31x10.5 tires ???. I need some opionons and input on what manufacture to go with? I would like to use these on and off road, I do not want to get to agressive ;D I also do not own a bank :'( so lets keep it around the $125 range. Thanks Hotrodzuki

Did you try looking for used all terrains in local papers/bargain hunters/forums? Unless you specifically want new then ignore ;D
btw - what else did you do to get 6.5" from a SPOA? That's pretty high, you could probably fit a 33 ;D ;D

It is a 5" spring over perch with a 1.5" rancho lifted spring ;D OTT steer and DT shocks ;)

Hey Hotrod...
Are you going to be driving more on-road or off? Do you do mud or rocks or just a wide variety? If'n you want inexpensive doall type of tire and don't care too much if it howls on-road do the Trxus mt's... if'n you want quiet, do an AT like a BFG. If'n you want really inexpensive do the High-Tech re-treads... cost around $45/tire + shipping and are a really good value... ran these for 3 years and have been very pleased. Check for their ads in the back of 4-wheel & off-road mag.

Hi-tech has a website too.. I forget all about them... they are a GREAT value and a couple of their patterns interest me.
Shipping seems to kill you on those tires... unless you are close.. I guess I am not, cause the shipping scared me away.. it would be worth checking into though.. as those are some great tires for the money!

Hey Hotrod...
What?
Besides that.
Are you looking for an A/T or a light mudTire.
125 bucks apeice?
That will give you lots of options for a 31'inch tire.

I like my Interco TrXus MT's. Siping so they're good in the winter and slippery road conditions, mud tread so I rarely have "not enough" tires, and last I saw the 31's went for under $120 each. If I buy a new set of tires for the Tracker they will likely be my choice.

becareful with super swampers they are a very hard tire and your sammy doesnt weigh much try looking at the maxis mudders

Careful man, you're "painting with a very broad brush". My TrXus MT's are actually a rather soft tire, no firmer than most regular radial muds.

Yeah, I agree....My LTB's are anything but "hard". The lugs are very pliable. What you might mean, are those flatspots you get when the tires sit for more than a few hours. Quite common on a bias ply tire.
For a tire under $120, Swamper LTB's 31x11.50's!
Awesome tires!
If you don't want something quite that aggressive, BF Goodrich All Terrain T/As are a great tire. Quite running, long wear, and decent traction. You can pick up a 31x10.50 for around $125/tire.

I been shopping and found some Cooper/Mastercraft Courser MT at very low price :o Has anyone ever used them, and what are they like on the road ??? Thanks Hotrodzuki

Cooper and Cooper family tires are good stuff. Quality without the price of BFG or Goodyear. I haven't had those specific tires but I have had other Cooper family brand mud terrains and had good results with them on different vehicles. Me likes. :)

I just went through this with my Sammy and here is what i found...
I started with Buckshot wide mudders on a homemade SPOA. I found the ride to be brutal, the steering insensitive, and the MPG was about 19-21.
I switched to RRO jeep-eater YJ spring conversion with Old Man Emu springs under the axles thinking i would get a smooth controllable ride. But something was still off, the ride was still rough even though i could tell my axles were moving up and down much more smoothly. So i decided my tires might be too aggressive.
Now i do 98% of my driving on road and am about to start flat towing my Sammy 800 miles each way on camping trips several times a year, so on road feel is what i am looking for right now.
I shopped AT tires from Dayton, Cooper, and American(cooper rebadge). Cooper had a slick looking Severe terrain tire called the STT, but it was over 200 a tire istalled and had no mileage warrenty. Cooper also had a nice looking AT that i was about to get when i found a cheaper estimate on Dayton Timberline AT's.
Five Timberlines installed were 600 bucks even.
My ride quality is suddenly awesome, and my steering is tight, though off center because of my lift.... The softer road tires actually isolated so many of my squeeks and rattles that i was able to isolate the worst one, rusted tailgate hinges rattling, and fix it. My Sammy is more stable at road speeds, gets 3mpg better in all driving conditions, and handles rough roads without hopping around like a demented frog.
I realize im not going to get the off road traction of my old mudders, but to be brutally practical, i dont need it right now.
I assume the Cooper Discoverer AT would be similar, but in my area they are slightly more expensive, around 700 for 5 installed....

I'm seriously considering these for myself. They are very reasonable, have a good rep, and have the tread type that I'm looking for:
