Title: My Tracker.....Please vote....Remove stripes or not...
Post by: hobgoblin on March 24, 2006, 12:28:21 PM
Hello All,

Just thought I'd post a pic of mine,It has a 2" Sky body lift and 1.5" Sky spring spacers,Aftermarket 4x4 frt skid plate,Lock-right locker,Gas tank lift,95 style top and seats, custom frt bumper with 8000 lb winch,I have a DT header on the way,It has a cold air intake,MSD coil,Hurst shifter,Kenwood CD player,I'm sure there are other things I'm missing....It looks funny with the stock tires and wheels, but I'm going to get the motor 100% before the tires and wheels are bought. I'm going with Bart 15x8 with 3" BS and 31x11.50 Swamper LTB's I've got the rocksliders almost done, and making a custom rear bumper also. Might do a cage later this year....And I'm taking the stripes off the side soon....what's your guys thoughts on the stripes?

Those are kinda cool....Or so I think ;) Ok for my tank lift I cut 3" off the brackets near the rear end,And welded 2''x1.5" plates with nuts back on there. Then I completly removed the rear support(rusted) and replaced it with 2" Heavy angle, and used this for the rear mounting points. The white evap chamber is all most touching the body. Here's some pics....The lift Mike H. done is for a 3" body lift so I just made it up as I went...... ;).

Kevin,

It worked out easy, might have taken an hour....My way seemed easy,so that's what I did.I still used the stock skid and didn't have to change anything...OK I take that back...Had to bend the lines on the pass side of tank up so they could be hooked up and clear the frame ;)

I like the clean look...

One of the first things I did was take the "Geo" and "Tracker" graphics off my truck...  ...and NOT just because they were PINK...

I think it looks great without the factory bumpers. The pinstriping is fine either way, but it would definitley look the best covered in mud!

Mine has a permanent red stripe that runs along the plastic strips and on the bumpers. the plastic strips have the red piece molded into them (red plastic), but the bumpers just have a red strip of decal material in a groove, and it seems to be chipping off in a few places.

As for your grafics, take them off, as they make the car look weird ;). My favorite grafics are the ones that come on the 1980s and 1990s toyota pickups and 4 runners. most people dont like them and think that they look dated, but I think that they look good ;D. I almost want to get a set and adapt them(trim them) to fit on the tracker, but they seem to be quite pricey.

Take them off.  I don't mind graphics but those are pretty bad.  THen again, it might contribute to the "sheep in wolves clothing" look.  Good luck!

Take a hair dryer to 'em. If you're really lucky, when you peel 'em off, there'll be fresh, new paint beneath 'em, and you'll have a shadow effect, kinda' like an old photograph negative. Besides... in a short while, those doors will be all tattooed anyway.

a hair dryer, or a heatgun and a little patience. go slow.
I use methyl hydrate to clean any sticky residue off the paint afterwords. Also use it before applying new decals.

Personally, I say remove those vinyls and the plastic trim, but Id maybe replace them with some other decals.

I love my stripe!

thats cool and all dude,

but the grill part looks like it was a pain in the ass to do!

Title: Re: My Tracker.....Please vote....Remove stripes or not...

Granted, yes it was a terrible pain in the ass.   Up close the grille doesnt look its best, it had to be patched in spots.   What I wanna do is this summer when I get my body work done, I want to remove all the striping from the grille and have the body shop paint a stripe on there..... if they can, its an old guy running it, shouldnt be a problem though.   The estimate was about $1400.   That includes:

1.Grinding down metal and repainting beneath the trim under the doors (and rustproofing there)
2. Grind down right rear wheel well and repainting it.
3. Replace right door (its rusted inside BADDD), repaint and fix a couple dents in my replacement door I already have.
4. replace right front fender with my replacement fender, and repaint it.

Yes, I know its kinda financially stupid to put that money into a car with a blue book value for around maybe $3000 (probably not even), but I dont give a shit!   If it makes me happy, it makes me happy.   Ill be taking out a loan.   Paying like $60 a month is nothing to how happy Ill be with my perfect Tracker.

I did almost the same thing.

All the rust and dents were repaired.
Bodykit was molded on to the front and rear while the sides are TRULY molded on.
Everything was painted in the totally BAD ASS NSX Imora Orange.

Cost me under 2K
which INCLUDES the price of the civic kit w shipping to HI

I think we're coming at it from two different perspectives here.  I think the stripe (notice the e, all  of us here in America took English at some point in our lives folks, it's not that difficult ;) ) looks good on Tracker_Camps96's Tracker but would I do it on mine?  Nope.  I've stuck two USMC stickers on mine and called it good so far.

Then there's guys like us that like to abuse our trucks offroad.  My first Tracker had asphault undercoating on the lower portion of the body to hide the rust and stuff.  Only later did I find out someone made a spray on bedliner.  This one will likely get a similar treatment but I'm not sure what kind of bedliner I will use.  Gotta keep the body together a couple more winters. :P  Would Tracker_Camps96 think of putting bedliner on the exterior of his truck?  Somehow I doubt it.

Horses for courses.

What do you mean spray on bedliner?  Like the whole body?   Im confused.   Yeah, I keep mine clean most times, unless I do offroad.

HEY AJM, just curious, does your 90 Tracker still have the seats?   If so, what do they look like and would you sell them?

I'm thinking go the "expensive route" and do Herculiner up the body line on the Tracker or go the "inexpensive route" and get the Duplicolor spray on (in the aerosol (sp?) can) bedliner.

Ugh, you don't want them.  Smelly, stained, and fugly.

Ewwwwwww
 :-X

go half(ass)way and just roll the stuff on yourself.
I was going to do that if I got a 4x4 tracker to kick around.
Herculiner IN and OUT, no carpets, dirty?  just spray it down

Storms want to come to Hawaii for another 40 days,

I say, BRING EM ON!

(the only problem is you have to do research on fading,
and stick with black, because the off white looks BUTT UGLY
when used on an exterior)
