Title: rattling windows and broken door handles
Post by: jimmyn on March 25, 2006, 01:01:15 AM
When I have my windows down 2 to3 inches they rattle like crazy. What can I use on the window or in the track to stop the rattle. Also Ive broken at least  5 door handles. Can i buy metal door handles for my  92 4 door sidekick. Thanks

The rattling of your window is probably due to a combination of the glass coming loose from it's mounts on the regulator inside the door and the weather stripping being worn or maybe gone from the frame. Pop off the door pannel and make sure the bottom of the glass stays flat against the mount when moving up and down.

If the doorhandles are so tight that you keep breaking them your door latch and tall the linkage needs to be traken apart, cleaned and relubed. If you are having your passengers grab the plastic handle and yanking it, just slap a few of them and they will quit  ;D

My windows have done that from new. Only solution I know of is to wind them down further or keep them up  :-\

Mine probably rattle when half way down, but I have gotten used to it and dont notice them. I have also gotten used to the high rpms while cruising on the freeway and the SWB rough ride. Whenever someone else rides in my car, they complain about the harsh ride and how it rattles. How I see it, if someone is complain about how annoying and uncomfortable the trackick is, then they dont need to ride with me ;).

Rhino-the problem is that we get so much rain during the rainy season in Costa Rica that we have rain visors on the windows. So we can roll down the window a couple of inches and the windows and windsheld dont fog up and the rain does not enter the car. Cant use the defroster cause its to warm. So I need to figer something out.

I have them too, I was hoping it might solve the rattling problem. Mine are the slimmer version, I was wondering if the larger version might be better but I guess that means no. I also suffer from the misting up problem during the summer rain, mainly during slow driving offroad. I too keep the windows a little bit open. Before I fitted the deflectors it was a real nuisance because every time the truck tilted to the right all the water ran off the roof and onto my lap  ::).

I used some 2 part plastic weld on the inside of the door handle feels a lot more solid now.
