Title: engine swap
Post by: tracker8wr on February 21, 2005, 03:31:07 AM
i am thinking of ways to build a sami for a friend that wants auto. i was going to use a 16 valve and tranny out of a 2 wheel drive any thoughts on that. how much longer is a kick tranny than a sami.

You could probably remove the intermediate shaft and hook the rear yoke of the 2wd tranny up to the input yoke of the t-case.  One u-joint  ;D!

I think I saw this done by one of the Zuk builders.  IIRC.

Hawk did this several years ago for a customer. What I remember is that at the time, he had to do a body lift (which seems weird thinking about it now) to get all of the 2wd auto tranny's bits to fit and it worked good. Today with all of these new adapter choices, it might be better to use the whole Sidekick 4x4 drivetrain together.... Either way, I think you'll have to do some transmission hump modifications or a body lift.
