I got an 88 samurai a few weeks ago. Since then I fixed all the rust and repainted the whole thing. Now comes the hard part, the motor!! I got it to start and run, but it seems like the choke is stuck. I can't get the rpm's down, it sounds like it's going to blow up. Also, when it's running it dumps oil out the back of the motor on the passenger side. Before I start taking it apart does anyone have any ideas what I should look for?

check the seal on the distributor for oil leak

Sounds like that blasted fuel pump... There's a vent tube on the bottom, and once a pump starts going bad it spews oil out that tube. As far as the high idle...How long do you let it run? Sammies do have a high cold idle. Mine sounds like it's going to blast off until it warms up. ;D
Sweet lookin Sammy by the way!! 8)

The choke is likely stuck, it is pretty common. I have heard of guys wiring them closed and I know some people have had success with adjusting them but they are finicky. When mine gave me problems I ditched it for a Toyota carb. As for the oil leak it is probably the distributor o ring.
