Title: Longer Tracker CV axel options?
Post by: muskegtracker on April 06, 2006, 08:10:46 PM
Hi I'm new here...

Anyway, I've got a 91 Tracker and I'm designing a long travel kit.  Does anyone know the spline size at the hubs, or any other interchangable cv's.  Obviously longer is what I need.  Has anyone really experimented with alternative cv's of different vehicles?  I've heard about toyota axels, but their mostly done for strength right?  Who doesn't want strength, but I don't have huge tires, so for now anything will work.

I will build custom control arms 2-3 inches overlength of stock.  Any knowledge or ideas would be great.  Thanks...

Here's a pic of me stuck in the muskeg of Northern Alberta

I realize there are other threads along this topic but, I'm new to this Forum game.  So patience and help would be great.

if you JUST want longer than you could use the GV CV/shafts.

im also looking into this, i believe that you might be able to use a toy cv on the knuckle end with stans spacer so you can use the toyota lockout hub, then i dont know for sure but  i think the axle between the two cv's have 28 spline i think, then make an adapter that will bolt to the three bolt flange of the tracker so you can use 930 cv on that end now the only part you need custom is the axle between the two which i think you can tell any driveline machine shop to cut down and axle and respline it to all of your specs. oh ya the adapter that will be used to bolt the 930 cv will also act as a cup to allow that end of the axle to slide in and out.

any thoughts let me know

why not just use toyota CV's? If you want them longer cut them in 1/2 and sleeve them to whatever length you want.

For longer toyota cv shafts check out the ones that they used in the T-100 trucks

I've never heard of a T100, time to hit Google

The T-100 was the pre-cursor to the Tundra.  Not quite a full size but larger than the standard Toyota minis.  Some of the pre-runner suspension kits for the standard toyota IFS trucks use wider a-arms and swap out the stock cv shafts for shafts from a T-100.  Hope this helps.

-What kind of conversion needs to be done to fit toyota CVs?
-How much longer are the GV CVs?
-What is a 930?

So many questions...

What year were T100's?

I figured there would be other CVs with the same spline's.  The toyota doesn't have a three bolt left side do they?

I had a look on Google - US market truck. Not much chance of finding any of those driveshafts in the UK  >:(

why not just use toyota CV's? If you want them longer cut them in 1/2 and sleeve them to whatever length you want.

You create a major weak point.   May as well throw the shafts away if your gonna do that.

Has anyone had a look under an 06 GV yet? IRS must have some pretty strong driveshafts.

930's are Porsche axles.  Strong to take the RWD beating.

Does the porshe 930 cv hook up direct or do mods/adapters need to be made?

Is the outside cv an original? if so, its the inner cv that limits the angle?

As the picture above shows Porsche CV's have to be adapted to work.  I've seen them on vehicles and "vehicles" (race trucks, tube vehicles, etc) with all kinds of makes, components, peices, etc.

I also remember reading a while back where a guy used CV-joints and axles from a 3/4 or 1 ton GM IFS truck's front diff.  I dunno where they rank compared to the Porsche stuff but I know it's a decent diff.

Hey, those pics look familar.  I did not think anybody was really interested in them when I first posted those.

For the other question about T100 and Tundra CV Axles, they are 3 inches longer than the stock Toyota CVs (86 and up).

Here is a company http://www.esbfabrications.com/  (http://www.esbfabrications.com/) that can still make the 930 to Toyota CV adapters, you would have to call him or email him on what you need.   The reason I know he still makes the adapters, is because he said he can in another Forum (RaceDesert I believe).

The 930 to Toy adapters aren't really the thing we need as we would want 930 to Zook flange adapters. What we really need is the Toy to 930 spline shaft. Who's doing them?

hey kozaz, do you know how many splines are on the inside of the 930?

Bits and pieces of info I have picked up:

German Porsche 930 (28 splines) cv joint 108mm, porsche 930 German Lobro hub, cage, balls & body.
Measures 40mm or 1 1/2" wide, 109mm or 4 1/4" across with a 30mm axle opening. Bolt holes are 10mm id.

930 Porsche type Lobro CV joint, (6 x 10mm holes on 94mm PCD)

CV's angle   930 =25+ degrees depending on setup

...Porsche 930 CV...108mm  4.245" dia.*  x 1.580" thick

hey kozaz, do you know how many splines are on the inside of the 930?

I always wondered if the 930 CV adapter Kit, for the Toyota, included a different inner spline shaft (What CJ Mentioned)?

I was in a middle of a move and all my parts are boxed up.  I guess if I dig through them I could see if the Toyota IFS Shaft fits the 930 CV.  (I have both)

sweet dig them up and let us know :D, im trying to find a shop that will make a custom axle to fit into the toy cv and the 930. so i can play around different lengths.

The Toy/930 CV setup used a custom shaft and that is the item needed for the swap plus a different flange adapter to suit our application.

I think the Toy CV's are 27 spline  28mm dia. shaft and the Mitsubishi Montero/Pajero/Shogun CV's are a 28 spline 29mm shaft. I believe but need to confirm this myself that the Mitsi CV's don't need machining/grinding to the back of the hub to fit and their manual hubs are also Aisin like the Toy and Zook ones.

In case there is any doubt, I verified that the 930 CV does not fit the Toyota Inner CV Shaft.
