We are testing interest in how many people would be interested in a set of pre runner type of front glass fenders.
Kevin
-
I do, I have been thinking about them
for over a year, I don't think I'll ever get
to making them
-
Thats 4 sets needed. After Moab we'll be working on this but I need to know who else just to get a rough idea on how many we need to order.
Kevin

obviously pending how the y look but I am def. interested! 8)
-
yeah i want a set how much we talkin $$$$$$$$$ wise
-
Make them out of Kevlar. Nice and strong and will take a beating. 8) Used to modfy my jetskis with it for racing so they could take a centrepunch and also did it for running them in whitewater rapids for bouncing off the rocks. ;D

I was planning to try making a set too, just too busy with other projects right now, it would be nice to see a set available.

Sound very interesting. Please post up pics when you do a mockup.
-
I would also be interested pending price and what it looks like ::)
Keep me posted, I was planning on replacing my bent up ones anyway...so this is perfect timing
-
The interest is definately there. I'd be interested depending on the price, looks, and other factors.
-
ya im in just would like to see a mockup of what they yould look like
-
I'm another curious one whose been thinking about building his own. Interested
-
Id just prob rip them off in the woods so I can't see spending the money for them but im sure lots off ppl will buy em
-
ppltrak isn't going to make no
ugly fenders, I need to cover the
new widened front suspension, I
need a set of wide pre-runners.
-
how wide of fenders are we talkin here?
-
What kind of time line would it take to make them?
I just took off my old tube bumper...so why not take off the fenders also! :-X

So let's narrow this down. I actually have a bushwacker wide body kit on my kick and I love it. It's the glue on type but they look cool.
I think there should be two options for Front fenders. And I think they should be bolt on not glue on. I also think it should have shaved marker lights or optional marker light locations.
1. A fender with stock body lines just a much larger wheel well opening.
2. A wide body fender that is has the larger wheel opening and maybe a couple of inches wider.
I would pay 250 to 300 a set after checking toyota prices that seems to be the going rate for fiberglass fenders.
Anyone have any ideas on the rear.. Other than glue or pop rivet or other type of fastner there isn't really a good way to do the rear.

man I wish i could find a set of those bushwackers.

I've never seen a glue on 'glass fender. Are you thinking of flares?
From a friend's experience with 'glass fenders on his Ranger you need to make sure the stuff lines up and is the same dimensions from each peice to the next. He got a set of Perry's Fiber front 'glass for his Ranger and they were horrible. Stuff doesn't line up at all, mounting points were just wrong and off, and from side to side they fit very different. He got it to work but wasn't happy at all.
Also remember you'll have to find a good way to ship these. If UPS can f-up a Detroit Locker or a bumper they can F-up a fiberglass fender. :P
As for the rear, the only good way is pop-rivets, dzus (sp?) fasteners, or bolts. That's what I've seen on Broncos, BII's, K5's, Explorers, etc setup for desert stuff. Autofab's Bronco rears go on that way. You cut out the fenderwell according to their specifications, drill some holes, and mount up their fenders. There's no way to make it look pretty without doing major body work that would fall off the first time you offroaded it.

Okay, let's see some pics of your Bushwackers. I've heard of 'em but never seen 'em.
-
Definatly interested in fender flairs depending on cost. I have been needing wider fenders for along time now and if they are priced like the toyota ones then I would buy a set.

I agree, I think just a pair of pre-runner style fenders, about 2" wider and a large tire cutout, similar size to zig's cutout he did on his rig. Then have a basic 2" flare for the rear, like a samurai flare(remember, it doesn't need to be cut out like the front as it doesn't turn).
I like the idea, if the price was right, and they looked good I might buy.
I also like the idea of the shaved markers, if someone wanted them, they could easily drill/cut the holes necessary to mount them(and they could put them front or rear).

Here's a pic of hutch's bushwhacker kit
-
And another
-
ppltrak, so are you thinking of a flare kit like those or an actual PreRunner replacement fender?
-
An actual pre runner front fender first and then poss. rear flares later. The front is the biggest issue with the kick.

What we are going to do is meet with a guy who does this for a living. He makes ranger, chevy, toyota,... kits, but nobody makes kits for our stuff. Prob. I will fund the first batch 10 and see how they sell. I'm not in the bus. of trying to make a profit off of these. We just have a conn with someone and would like to see more options for our trucks.

Where do you get the kit and how much?
Could you some how add a lip to your kit and then bolt or rivet it on instead of using the glue?
-
I would try these guys
http://www.toyotafiberglass.com/
They are active on a couple of local boards and seem to be into the 4x4 thing. I know a friend of mine used their rear replacement panels on his 4 runner and they fit excellent.
-
Keep me posted I will more than likely love to pick up on of those 10

The Bushwacker fender flares are no longer available When i worked at NAPA I calle bushwacker and they said it was discontinued a few years ago. better try and findem on ebay

if thay can handle a scrape on a rock? its unlikely if thay arnt cheep. if you have seen my finders you would know what im talking about.
-
I think that if these found their way to the trail, the word'd spread quickly. They'd probably be a great seller.ÂÂ
As for marker lights, if these are actually trying to be sold, they should have slots for em already. Pretty sure the majority of sales for any accessory is to the mall crawlers who want to stay lit up without doing any work.
BTW... I bought a Jeep... I'm sorry.
-
I would like mine with no cut outs then I can mount some cheap marker lights in there some with LED lights and flush mounted. Its not hard to mark and cut out fiberglass. 8)
-
They could always have the mark pre-made into the back of the fiberglass where you would cut if you wanted lights. Would take the guesswork out of it as far as factory placement anyway. And those who didn't want them wouldn't have to fill holes.
-
I'd create a paper template of where the stock marker light is supposed to go, that way it can easily be setup, and drilled/cut by the end user. If you didn't have to cut them out, it would be one less step you would need to do when your making them.

Any Updates on the status of the fenders?
