So, I'm taking the entire rear axle from the XL-7 and putting it in the 2-dr tracker. One thing that's causing difficulty right now is the two different systems to attach the parking brake cable to the backing plate/flange at the drum.
I had planned to just keep using the tracker's cables, but that's not much of an option now. 2nd choice would be to use the XL-7's cables and either shorten them or just cope with their much longer length, but due to the injuries to the donor XL-7, I'm not able to reach some of the brackets that attach the cable to the frame. So, that option's not too appealing, either.
The first pic shows the XL-7's attachment. The angled fitting bolts onto the back of the plate and feeds the cable into the drum.
The 2nd pic shows the Tracker's attachment. The backing plate has a protrusion (3rd photo), and the fitting goes in perpendicularly, held in place by spring flanges that keep the fitting from backing out.
Does anyone know of any other applications (automatic 2-door, v6 4-door, etc.) that have the XL-7 style attachment system? I'm probably going to have to go with a new set of cables, but would rather order something shorter than those for the XL7..

why not make a angled mount to accomodate the tracker cables to to the xl-7 axles so you can get stock cables iwould cut a small piece os flatsteel drill a hole in it weld a piece of pipe to it cut on the desired angle.
I have not seen an xl-7 rear axle backing plate but I imagin it is a do able thing

that's a clever option. Might eat up more of my valuable cable length, so I might go with 4-dr cables anyway, but I really like the solution.

You might be better off with 4dr cables anyway. If you are going for a lot of rear travel the swb cables can get a bit short.

Right. Wasn't planning to address any rear suspension travel issues at this point, but two things have changed the timeline bit:
1. The bolt holding the lower mount of the right rear shock has fused itself to the metal sleeve inside the rubber at the bottom of the shock. Can't get it out with reasonable effort....so the shock remains attached to the axle and goes with the wreck.
2. The top of the right rear shock on the wreck is pressed tight into the floorpan due to the way the frame bent up in the accident. So, can't (with reasonable effort) remove it, either.
So, the wreck has a cool looking non-functional twin shock setup (one attached at the top, one at the bottom) at the right rear, and my Tracker is short a shock..
Anybody have anything horrible to say about Doetsch Tech? Friend ran them in his Cherokee and liked them.

the best thing to use to get the bushing off the spindle of the shock mount is an air chisel
I use one almost every day removing radius rod bushings off of bus axles they will be rusted
in spot and try as hard as you want they wont come off but the air chisel just slides them off
