In another thread I was told that there was something about my 2.0l that would not let it be compatable with a turbocharger. So, would my engine be able to handle a supercharger along with some other mods. I've basically decided that my Tracker will be used with more highway driving so need some more highway power, makes sence to me.
-
Now you got me curious...
Can you post a link to the "can't Turbo" thread you refer to?
It seems to me that it would be a lot easier to turbo than supercharge since supercharging requires the designer (yes, there is no supercharger available for the 2.0 engine that I know of unless the engine is also used in a popular "ricermobile") to deal with belt-drive alignment.
Turbo only requires moderately careful design of custom intake/exhaust plenums unless I am totally missing something.
Dang! Wild is at Moab! He knows the answer.... >:(

Here is a super charged 2.0 Tracker

I saw that on cardomain.com but I didn't know how to go about get the kit, installing it or even what kind of things the engine needs to prepare for that kind of mod. So, I guess any suggestions would be great.

I'd email that guy from car domain and ask him. Most folks are very talkative about their pet projects..
Besides, that Supercharger set up is AWESOME looking.. wonder how it performs.

If you have a choice go with a turbo because a turbo works better under a load than a supercharger. When a motor bogs down so does a super charger no matter how much you push on the throttle but with a turbo if the motor bogs and you throttle it it produces more exhaust gases which will spin a turbo faster and produce more boost. Thats why you don't see superchargers on diesels.
Go turbo
Just my 2 cents as a diesel mechanic

Ive heard that sourcing some of the upgraded componets for the 2.0 may be trickey...
But if you keep the boost at low levels you could be ok on stock setup...
I am toying with the idea of either going 1.6 16 turbo..
2.0 Stock/2.0 turbo...
In a tracker...right now leaning towards 2.0 Stock or 1.6 Turbo

2.0L manifolds available on importperformance.com
or something close to that.
I'll be home in a few days, Thursday I think

...........Dustin
(IF i remember corectly...) The Detroit Diesel V-6 used in early military M113, A1 & A2 APCs were supercharged. This is the same engine used in early commercial trucks... Dump trucks and smaller freight haulers. I forget the manufacturer of the actual truck, but Detroit Diesel made the engine. High pitched screamers... 2 stroke.
-
the 2 strokers do not run with out a supercharger. the 2 stroke does not have a proper exhaust scavenge cycle like a 4 stroke so they use the blower to push out the exhaust gases.
Later versions then got turbos on top of the blowers
So yes they use superchargers but because they will not run without them I would not call them superchargered and plus those engines are now getting almost 60 years old.
and they came in 4v right up to 16v in different bore sizes from 53 up to 149 cubic inches
All new desiels are turboed now some with 3 or 4 turbos pushing 60 psi of boost.

very true legionnair and those early superchargers only pushed a few psi so don't even go looking for one lol
-
IPP no longer has the Turbo manifolds lisyed on their
site any more, I guess you are at the build it custom
stage if you want to go turbo route.
A 671 blower will not work, and is much too large
for a 4 cylinder engine, besides being about as big
as the Suzuki Block.

For that 2.0 I would build a manifold and run a T3 and if u are short on cash look around for a old supra T3 or a dodge 2.2 or 2.5 turbo they were T3.
Turbo is better to a point run it at psi with a piggy back efi system and u will love it. Good fuel econmy and so forth. When i open my shop up next year ill be making the turbo kits for the tracker 8v and the 16v and the 2.0 and 2.5 next year complete systems.
Pm me for more info

The Nissan 280ZX also have a T3, I have one running under my datsun 240z (which nearly killed me today) (not the turbo either)
-
Here is the kit I have for my 8V,
I ended up not installing it and its sitting collecting dust....
I will probably have one madefor the 16V or 2.0+ whenever I make up my mind
