Boondox is willing to order in a bunch of the 5.83:1, 12 bolt rears if they know you guys will buy them. They can get them from an overseas supplier. The 10 bolt fronts are still available from vendors here and therefore they are only getting the rears. They are not cheap at 350.00 but they will be selling them for about the same price they pay to get them here. If you are interested please fill out the form they have on the site. It is up to us if they place the order or not. They need 20 of us or more to say "yes". I'm in for a set. It is up to you now.

Hey Shredder, can you tell me what tires I could run with those and have the same or slightly lower than stock gearing? Thanks! :D

Who can you get the front gears through? ???

im in for a set

Front gears are still available through Calmini & Hawk Suzuki for 289.00. Other vendors might have them. Boondox is working on those too but right now the rears are the hard (read impossable) to get ones.

5.83:1 Gears with 31" tires will be about the same RPM to wheel speed as the 5.125 gears are with 27" tires (205/75R15). For instance a stock TracKick with a 5 speed and 5.125:1 gears does 78 MPH |removethispart|@ 4000 RPM with stock 27" tires. The same vehicle with 5.83:1 gears and 31" tires will do 79MPH |removethispart|@ 4000 RPM. So essentially 5.83:1 gears make up the difference of 31" tires.
Now if you had an auto with the 4.30 gears then they would adjust for the diameter change that 35s would make. Hmmm? Maybe I should run an auto in mine.

Any info on the source/quality of these gears?

ive alrady filed in my reserve form and waiting for a reply

I do not know the name of the company that manufactures them. I do know that they are europeon and are the same parts used by Suzuki's that compete over there in the National Off-Road Championship. Boondox has been assured that they are built to OEM type standards. I also know that the distributor wanted 360 € (EURO) for them which is like $440 plus alot more to ship them over here. By buying a few thousand dollars worth Boondox can get them down to the $350 they are selling them for. I don't think they will make anything on these. I think it is just to get some over here to the guys that keep asking about them.
-
I'm gonna have to think really hard and long about getting them.
Funds are in the Minuses. :-\
-
That is sweet, it is nice to see more aftermarket support. I hope they become available in a few years when my Tracker starts growing some more. They even have some GV products ;D
There site is comming along nice and has soom good tech info too. I had some problems viewing the text (it was overlapping). If you run a high screen resolution, you may need to change the font size to get everything to show up right.
-
BUMP - I asked today about the 5:83s and was told that not very many of us are responding yet. ??? I thought more of us wanted to get our hands on these. Maybe I should tip off the other forums to them also. My Tracker wants a set bad.
-
Shredder, I just signed up for two sets , one for right now and one for a bad / sad rainy day. I broke the rear pinion and driver side axle on the Calmini V6 Vit Extreme Project Rig and it has been on jack stands all winter. I was getting ready to do a 5.62:1 swap front and rear or weld in a ford 9 with 5.83:1. I'll hold off for a while and see if the Euro gears materialize. I don't mind driving my Sam but the White Vit is better sex !!!
If we can get them, it will save me a lot of money and labor..... Gary

Hi Shredder,
I have put the word out here in NZ to some guys that are serious about getting some so that should help your cause ;)

Great. The list is growing. They said as soon as 20 people promise to buy they will take the deposit and order. ;) This makes me and my Tracker happy too. We both look forward to the lower gears. 8)

Got a buddy of mine looking for a set. Could you P.M. me and let me know if you can defantly get them??
Thanks!!
-
Hi everyone,
It could be this european supplier. www.4xfourtart.com

link not working:(
-
http://www.4xfourart.com
fixed it for you
.... and they want 360 euros -> 445 usd, and that's not even including shipping. If that is the case, then Boondox is getting a decent deal for placing a bulk order.
-
yes but who's the manufacturer of these gears. i'd like to know more info on who makes them, and what grade of alloy. i'm very interested in getting a set, but not without knowing more. also is there any warranty given ?

I would think they would be as good as any OEM type R&P.
-
ok what about warranty ?
-
I know Boondox stands behind their products but this is kind of a favor to us more than anything else. I think it is unrealistic to have them warranty a product they wont even make profit on. The supplier has stated that they are top quality R&P gears otherwise they wouldn't sell them. Both the supplier and Boondox know that if this venture goes well that it could be repeated. Boondox has also said that in the event of a broken R&P due to manufacture defect they will do their best to negotiate a replacement with the supplier for us.
I would think that R&Ps for racing or off-road use are a difficult thing to warranty anyway. Someone could stick a set under a Tracker with a SBC in it and 38" Boggers and then claim it exploded in their stocker while rolling down the driveway. ::)
I am just glad they are willing to do this for us. It doesn't look like anyone else is in a big hurry to supply them here.
-
It's is imposable to warantee a ring and pinion if
it's not setup right by a shop, and even then.
38" Boggers, come on, you know the axles are
the weak link, you aren't going to nuke a gear set
by putting power thru it, it's the axles that go first.

For illustration purposes only. Just trying to make a point. ;D :P
-
i'm sorry if i sounded like an ass for asking about warranty, and i know Boondox is doing us a favor which i can appreciate. i just want to gather as much info before making the decision.
anyways i just filled out the form to reserve me a set. now the agony of waiting. :)
-
This thread needed a bump......
Boondox still needs 8 more to agree to this before they order. The Zukimelt is coming fast. Come on guys I want to see some 5.83s back in this country. :)
Besides I'm looking at some 35s and my 5.12s keep saying no way. :o

RangerRick needs a set for 96 Sport Kick, count me in.

Make sure you fill out the form on Boondox's site. That is how they know they have enough interest to fill the order. ;)
-
New to this... Is it $350 for front and rear sets or $350 for the rear and $350 for the front??
ERock
-
It is 350 for the hard to find rears but you can still get the fronts here in the states for less.
-
:) I'm on board.
-
Is he ordering the 12 bolt rears?
I might be missing something here.. is the part # the same for the front and rear 10 bolt rings? Is the front reverse ground, or is it the same and the transfer spins the drive shaft opposite?
Am I making sense?? What I am getting at... is the front 10 bolt R&P the same part as the rear 5.83 10 bolt? I can't find a part number specifically listed for the 5.83 in 10 bolt, for the rear.
-
I called Calmini with the same question a month or so ago and the phone guy said yeah, they had the 10 bolt rears. At the moment thats what I have. Called them yesterday and was told they don't have ANY 5.83 rears, 10, 12 or otherwise. They are not the same as the fronts as the front diffs are physically smaller, therfor different parts.
-
10 and 12 bolt rear gears are the same size,
just a different bolt pattern
-
So, to make it simple for my poor old head.
The front 10 bolt will NOT fit the rear 10 bolt... correct??
-
You are correct sir! 10 bolt fronts are exactly that, FRONT ONLY. I know I'm going to have to get a new housing and and ring gear mounting flange for my ARB since my current r+p are 10 bolt, but it will will be worth it. Gonn cost me a couple hundred to convert it to 12 bolt, and while I'm at it I'm going to go with some heavy duty axles too. Never know when the 31's will get too small and 33's find there way into my shop. Probably a good time to do the steel front diff thing too.
-

You got THAT right!!! ;D
-
bump
just doing my part.
-
Noticed the bump. Guess they only need like 3 more people to commit to this deal. Where are they? I am hoping for my gears before the ZukiMelt.
FYI - On a side note, they have a sale and free shipping on the 4.24:1 T-case gears.

ooh ooh, that is even cheaper than Trail Tough's intro offer...
MAN, I need some ready cash.. I might have to just buy those gears!!!
IS THERE ANYWHERE TO GET A 10 BOLT 5.83 REAR RING AND PINON???
-
I notice he's listing these for 91-98 sidekicks on his website, I have a 1990 tracker, will these work in mine as well or are there other issues?
-
The only issue would be 10 bolt or 12 bolt,
but you can swap the 12 bolt carrier into
a 10 bolt equiped housing, and always have
your new gears set up in a shop if you don't
know how or have the tools to do it.
-
this seems to be taking too long to get 20 people to sign up for these gears. i got a bad feeling that by the time we get 20 to sign up, some folks will want to back out.
-
I hope not, I think they only need 2. They had 19 but then one backed out. ::)
-
If someone doesn't step up to the plate soon I am going to call Currie and order my Ford 9"and then they will be two more orders short. I did my part by committing to two sets. I know that some zukbrothers might be strapped for extra cash and cant fault that...but some of you have many zuks ... sell one and buy two sets. You cal always buy another zuk. PLEEESE ;D
-
How is this thing doing? Did you guys get your 20 orders? If we can't figure anything out by December I could sign up for a pair. I can't do anything until then... Movin into our first house with 3 kids 4 yrs and under.. Otherwise I would be on this thing when it all started.

What the hell ever happened with these gears anyway? I can't believe after all this time they still don't have 20 committed buyers. I'm tired of waiting and building a turbo. If I can't get the gears I'll just give it more motor!
-
Well I found this kind of late, but doesn't look like they have been ordered yet. I am in for two sets.
-
Any one know if they made it to 20??? Might be in the market for a set of these ;)
George
-
I put my name down but haven't heard anything so I assume they haven't made 20 yet.
-
I just put my name down on the list today. Hope it helps get those gears over here.
