Title: awful mpg and steady high idle on 92 Tracker (1600 rpm)

Hello,

Just got a 92 Tracker.  It's stock with 70k miles.  Runs great except I'm getting about 12 mpg (all city) and it idles at 1600 rpm, warm or cold.

Any ideas?

Sounds like its running rich, but Im no mechanic.

Timing and fuel system. Ignition and censors. Clogged TB? Could be alot of things but check the basic's first.

clogged exhaust system maybe a contributor to the problem.  Or restricitons on the air intake.  check for rats nests...

OK thanks guys.  I checked the air filter, airbox, and intake boot and all are perfectly clean.

What is the next "basic" to check?

Did you try adujsting the idle speed?????

what engine is it is it the tbi. if so i hade a high idle problem with mine the cold idle valve was stuck open. i hade to replace it.
