After some very long hours I finally have enough left over to get my lift kit, and few extra toys. Also I have about 3 days off this week!
I live pretty close to Calmini (1-hour drive time)
and I was going to drive down this coming Tueday.
I was going to pikc up the 3+3 KIT, as it seems to be the best deal for the money.
Is there anything else that I should pick up?
The car is just sitting at the moment...it needs new tires and bumpers.
Calmini was suggesting there sway bars?
Also when I try to install this should I do body or suspension first.
*My first time ever trying to install a lift...but it looks failry easy
-
I wouldn't worry about sway bars. Most of us take them off anyways. ;) ;D
A front bumper since your there and if ya have the monew.
The suspinion lift is really easy to install.
Body lift is a little more involved. But problley easier to do first so the kick isn't lifted too much to jack the body up (thats what I did).
Have fun ;D
-
For the bumper I am either going with shrockworks or calmini...
anyone have a recomendation on either one??
-
Build your own if you have the equipment and the capabilities. that way you can make any design that you want.
-
check trail toughs bumpers they look awsome(just ordered me a set yesterday cant wait)
-
Please let me know when its installed, it may impact which bumper I do get.
Though the front bumper looks pretty good, I don't care much for the rear one
-
Swaybars? Hah! My Tracker's suspension moves so little with the Calstiffi lift that I bet it's stiffer than it was with the stock suspension and sway bar on!
I like those Trail Tough tube bumpers...although with as stiff as my springs are I wonder if heavier bumpers wouldn't be a bad idea... :P
-
Well my plan went right out the door, called Calmini to go down today or tommorow to begin the madness.....
Everything I wanted was on back order...
Guess ill have to take another look at the shrock works bumper in the mean time...
Should I wait for them to get it back in stock or there something else out there that is better?
-
Everything 0n backorder?
Lift and all?
I'd check with ShrockWorks then.
Calminis backorders could take Months..........
-
Months sounds about right...he didin't seem to be sure when anything would come in...
Shrockworks bumper looks nicer anyway..
now I have to decide tubes or no tubes....
I have also heard sky has a great lift
-
in my opinion, if you want to buy a lift, buy calmini, best lift made for suzukis, if u want to do your own lift, just do coil spacers, easy to make and get at least 2" of lift untill the calmini one comes avaliable
-
Check out these guys:
http://www.boondoxmotorsports.com/BMS_home.html
They have a 6" lift that's similar to Calmini's lift. Ask Shredder, he has their stuff.
-
Those dudes need to sell the diff drop brackets and a-arm brackets separately. That's what sucks about calmini is you have to buy the whole kit.

That's what killed CALMINI? Did I miss something? To my knowledge theirs is still the only complete suspension system available for these vehicles. Please don't use the boondox copy, turkish copy, or any other half baked system as another performance system.
-
What most people need (without blowing their budget on a full system) is diff drop brackets for the front and a rear a-arm adapter.
Look at how many people on here just use coil spacers sand crown vic shocks in the rear and you'll see what i mean. If these parts were available separately, then a few people would save their cv's with less angle and breakage.
I've got an OME lift without any spacers, but to lower the front diff sure would be nice, even if just a little.

So uhm, you know the Boondox setup is crap how?

Really? What is that wrong with the other options? I've run Old Man Emu and Calmini and now a blend of the two. I think it's great that Boondox has a kit that has diff drop brackets and a rear diff spacer. I also think it's great that the Turkish company offers their components seperately and now there is also a Taiwanese company offering diff drop brackets. What does this tell you? That Calmini had/has the option to sell their components seperately too but has chosen not to and that is is fine, it's their choice. Nature abhors a vacuum and sure enough others have come along to fulfill a demand. Doesn't make what they offer not worth considering. I probably wouldn't buy the Calmini system again with these options available and knowing what I do now.
-
CJ sums up my point of view exactly. People want to buy individual components when they need them.
Imagine if OME components were only available in a kit with front and rear struts and coils. People would get frustrated quickly if they couldn't buy just the front struts. We cater to the market that not everyone wants a complete kit all at once.
I commend boondox and all these other guys for trying to break the mould.
-
What are the opinions on the Sky b/l and coil spacer combo? i called them the other day and the guy i spoke to couldnt seem to tell me much about what other parts were needed. Am I correct in stating that no other parts are needed for the body lift, and for the coil spacers you need to do a strut mount flip and shocks?
-
Honestly with the way my Calstiffi lift rides I'd consider swapping springs to something softer if I had the money.
The part I like about the Boondox lift is that it's SEVERAL HUNDRED dollars cheaper than the Calmini stuff. Then there's Calmini's world famous...uhm..."people skills" ::)...or lack there of.
-
calm down guys, I said nothing about quality. I think there will be little arguement to the replication of a known part but oh well ::) such is the market I guess. Read what was written. I was asking about the "thats what killed CALMINI comment". Now I see that he edited his post, oh well...
-
I never meant that calmini's stuff was that bad, i meant more that it "killed" us that we could buy just a piece or 2 of their kit to combine it with other brand stuff.
-

I bought a used Calmini kit, when I moved house the centre diff drop bracket was lost. Calmini refused to sell me a replacement as I didn't have the original receipt. I modified the existing bracket but I shall buy a replacement from the Taiwanese company.

Yes, They can be ever so helpful at times.
-
As a rule, I will only deal with calmini if I have to,
I would rather pay shipping from someone else than going to them,
but sometimes you have to deal with them, as in my case with the lift.
I am just going to wait it out and invest some of the money for the tracker in my Datsun; which is my other black hole for money
-
Called Calmini again today...
Lift kit is still on backorder for at least 2 weeks....
I guess that means I get to sick more money into my other car...(I would rather go offroading..weather has been so nice)
-
I have to agree with CrikeyMike on this one, I too would like to buy a drop bracket set and A arms from Calweenie but the answer is no way! I have the RRO lift and body lift and I'm glad I went that route. Ride is great and It's only 1/2" lower in the suspension than the Calstiffie. Anyone know how to order the diff lowering brackets and rear diff spacer from that Asian Company?
-
Turkish one is from here anyway

The best part is, that they allow you to order every part of the kit individually!

Thoose look like a pretty highq uality parts!
I think because I am being pushed around by calmini this might be a good time to just go SAS
-
it says you can order them sucessfully, but last year i tried to contact them and couldn't get ahold of anyone.
Has anyone sucessfully ordered the turkey lift? Or parts of it?
Gobble gobble.
-
Not sure if you decided on bumper yet but I can't say enough good things about Shrockworks. The quality is awesome, service is great. I love mine!
Keep us posted on your lift route. I have a 4dr I am thinking about lifting just trying to get a couple of other projects wrapped up and determine what to do with it.
-
Calmini keeps telling me its on back order...
A few people have talked to me about doing a SAS swap at the moment because mine needs to be converted to 4X4 as well, and for something like that I would need some help.
I can make the tracker 4x4 with stock parts at around 700
ADVICE PLEASE!
Which bumper did you get from shrockworks....the one with or w/out the brush guard.

When I was looking for a 5.83 rear I contacted them. The guy doesn't speak english so he has a friend who acts as a go-between via email. It makes it a slow process. I had the first couple of emails answered but after that they stopped responding. ??? ::)

Hello All,
As for a lift I have 2" Sky body, and spacer lift. I have 33"x12.50 under it with trimming I can't say enuff for the Hagen widing(gets the tires out of the fenders!!!).
As for Calmini......I have a header on backorder from December....LOL They still have not called etc. I bought a DT Header and got it in a week. And Calmini was back ordered on the body lift then....Just a thought.....

i have little faith in these parts suppliers for newer models.. i can't get a body lift right now either....... back order..... i'd rather not use hockey pucks to lift my 03 but..... i'd like to lift it this month........ not likely... >:(
-
Lift kit finally is availabe! :o
To bad I don't need it anymore... :'(
