Title: 1997 2.0 litre 4 cyl Vitara engine rebuild. Do i turbo or supercharge?
Post by: shanes on April 21, 2006, 10:50:00 PM
Guys

Have been building my rig for the last six months,
and seems to work well, but .. think i need more power
Should i, while rebuilding turbo ( 6 pound boost Garret ) Australian or course
or use mechanical supercharger  (Wheeland) Both cost around Seven grand.
should pick up around 120 %
But at what revrange for 4WD? Whick is the best way to go?? ???

I would vote turbo,

there are alot of posts about why on here and they explain it better..

Being a off road vehical, I would opt for quick spool up time so boost builds quickly...

So more power with less exauhst gass moving

 Thanks for the advice,

Are there any hassles with over heating ? and do i need to run an inter cooler if so
air or water.

Streetsy.

No overheating if you run the stock fan, an electric fan cannot keep up.

Yes,  you need and intercooler, air to air or air to water, makes little
difference, but air to water will be more complex and need it's own
water pump and radiator, tho it's usually more efficient and smaller
in size than air to air, and normaly more expensive too.

Look into forged low compression pistons, Honda 1.6 pistons are a
good match, and available in a bunch of compression ratios.

Be sure to look at the dish volume of the pistons, and the head cc
volume as well, a larger head cc volume will have a smaller dish in
the piston, even if it's a low compression piston in the Honda engine.

Suzuki head volume is 25.5cc for 16V and 32.2cc for the 8V this will
let you calculate the compression ratio you want for your desired boost.

Good Luck on the rebuild

Yeah u can run a set of D series pistons in that motor. Alot of guys are running the zuki 1600cc pitson up too 300 whp

keep the factory fan as it will keep a constant flow threw the intercooler.

Just do not cheap out on fuel managment :)
