HI-
I was wondering if I could get some help. There is a switch next to my dash diming lights and I was wondering if it is related to the "check engine" swithch that everybody says is under the dash behind the speaker. My engine light is on all the time and this switch on the dash blinks red sometimes. Here's a pic of it. Any help would great. Thanx!

it look like a valay for an alarm. depending on the year you can check what the check engine light is saying by inserting a fuse in the emty slot in your fuse box under the dash and count the blinks with the key on. get a chiltans manual and it will tell you everything you need to know.

The car is a 93, in the Haynes manual it says I have to use  a jumper wire on the cable wire next to the battery. I tried that before and didn't get any codes? So I guess I'll try the fuse thing. Sometimes that switch will start blinking?
Thanks for your help.

Well, it for sure didnt come with that. I have a switch like that, but I put it in.
-
my 95 jlx has that. I think ih has somthing to do with a alarm system or somthing. I have seen several others with it. With the swich on, I
could hear a very faint alarm sound when I got in to start it. Thats all I can say about it.

i have the same light there but not the switch and it is for the alarm however i disconnected my alarm.

I never knew and track.kick came with an alarm, pretty bad place for it
-
Doesn't look like a factory switch to me, I bet its some thing to do with an alarm.
-
YES
It's a FACTORY alarm valet switch. When it's on, the light will blink when the vehicle is off, and if the alarm is working correctly, will auto-arm after 60 seconds. (I HATE this auto arm. I'd like to just be able to turn the alarm on and off only with the key fob.)
The valet switch works like this - put the key in the ignition, turn to ON (not START) and flip the switch UP and then turn the ignition OFF. This should turn the alarm system ON. Do the same to turn the switch OFF (flip it DOWN).
(I believe it's this way, could be DOWN then UP but I can't remember.. I'm inside at work and it's a walk to get to my truck.) :P
I posted instructions also on how to program key fobs on here once.. too. I still have my "Suzuki Security Alarm" booklet in my glovebox. LOL
;D

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS FOR 1995 and OLDER models ONLY - ODBI
For your check engine light there's two ways to turn that light off.
1 - you will LOSE your stereo settings, etc. If you're not worried about that, pull out your tail/dome fuse for 30 seconds. Put it back in, light should be off.
2 - Behind the dash under the steering column (take out that plastic panel, it just snaps out and snaps back in, this only takes 30 seconds too) - and feel around by the driver's speaker. You should feel this:

Flip it the other way, and leave it there. The light should go out. This is the ever popular mileage interval switch.
If you want to find out WHY the light is on, go here:

Hope these help!

hcgalvin.... Replyed to youer e-mail, but maybe did not get to you. Will try again. I have a 96 X-90 which I like very much, but it has had a hard life.I am trying to get it back together. The switch seems to work. The red light comes on and off like when I open and close the door. When I push in the lower right button on the remote, the lights will flash and there is a beeping under the dash, all for several seconds. I have not been able to locate two horns. The horn between the headlight and air filter box sounds like it has two tones. The alarm tone sounds when I disconnect and reconnect the battery. Rust in the area. I will disconnect wires and try again. Any thing you can scan and send me I would appreciate. How many pages in the manual? I would be willing to pay you to make me a copy of the manual. Thanks Tonyv

Hi Tony,
I'll scan in what I can when I get a few minutes.
Hmm.. my alarm horn is on the firewall, on the left side of the engine if you're standing in front of the truck facing it. It looks like a P.A. horn.
:)
I'll post the manual here, I'm sure others would like to see it. Look for a "Suzuki Security Alarm Info" topic in this forum, soon. I'll try to do it today if I get some time.

Hi HG. The horn I mentioned is the alarm horn. Dont know were the reguler horn is, but I dont realy care. It has an after market wire going under the dash. May have to remove glove box to trace it further. Tony
