Title: Esteem 16v into 97 Track/Kick?
Post by: dragracfan on April 29, 2006, 08:00:39 PM
Hi all, been out of the wheelin scene for a couple of years, but have been dying to get my beast running again before the first child gets here! I need a new crank for my 97 tracker, but was wondering if anyone knew whether or not an Esteem engine will swap into it? If not, does anyone know if the crank can be swapped between engines as I have a line on a cheap motor. Thanks in advance and hope to see some of you on the trails again!

I know that with the earlier models you need to swap the cam/distributor to clear the firewall. The gear on the end of the cam can be swapped over so you can use the Esteem cams as a core for a new grind if you want also.

The gear is part of the casting, can't be swapped.

The crank is interchangeable, the head is different,
it doesn't have the port cutouts for the Track/Kick
MPEFI system, unless the year you get had MPEFI,
the head we swapped onto my brothers 4 door was
a TBI system, we had to use a die grinder and make
the cutouts, lots of work, but it worked, as a side note
the HC count on the smog machine shows high, we don't
know if it's this head or just a EFI problem.

The cam info was from Hawk. he told me that when I was looking at getting a cam from him and the core shipping charges were going to make it too expensive. He said that he could use an Esteem cam and that the gear was swappable. I never physically confirmed this as I found someone here that did my grind instead.

Well, he would know.
I have two cams here, one form a Track/Kick and
one from an esteem, I gave the Track/Kick one a
good look and it does look like the gear could be
pressed on and off, learn something every day  :)
