I just bought a Samurai cheap, and I am totally new to them - used to be a Subaru guy, fwiw.ÂÂ
Anyway, I got this thing, and since it was cheap, it has, well, issues.
Today I was looking for the hood latch (thanks to Google, found it in the glove box) and came across the cable that runs from the driver's side firewall down to the floor and then through a grommet in the floor, to...somewhere.ÂÂ
This cable is disconnected, and I might have pulled it loose while I was looing around, because it appears to have new oil or grease on the end. Looks like a speedo cable, just looking at it.ÂÂ
Any clues?ÂÂ
TIA.ÂÂ

speedo cable

Thought so - I musta have pulled it out, because the speedo was working. Now to figure out where it came from.

Try the transfer case at one end and the speedo at t'other. ;D Seriously now, that's how they are on my Tracker, but I'm sure on of the Sammi guys can confirm it for you.

That would be correct. It probally came off the back of the speedo.
