Title: gear ratio for my tires?
Post by: USMCGrunt on June 25, 2005, 04:59:04 PM
Hi all, first post here. Yippie!!! ;D  Anyways, my Zook was bought used and I think the last owner kept the stock 3.73 gears in it and put on a set of 33X12.5R15 tires on it.  Needless to say, I don't have 5th gear.  I know there's a formula to figure out what your differential gear ratio is supposed to be but I can't remember what it is.  Any suggestions what would work best to get my 5th gear back and still work well for highway use as well?  Thanks. :)

Some 5.38s would be good
or you could use the gear calculator
on my site

Or just do the T-Case reduction gears and kill to birds with one stone.
No need to swap out the axle gears cause the Reduction gears for Sammie T-Cases have a high gear reduction too ;D
Those Dang Sammies get Everything. :'( ;) ;D

I could not get to the table in Wild's message above. (danged Internet!)

You can also, find a gear ratio table located at http://www.godzuki.us with a link to it through my FAQ site at http://www.ackerdackerly.com/samurai/indexFAQ.html  (near the bottom of the Contents frame in the Miscellaneous section)

This table gives you the resulting at-the-wheel reduction ratios for a number of diferent differential/transfercase combinations for the Samurai.

BTW, this is one of the best places for info on Suzuki 4x4 vehicles!  And Wild is one of the folks that makes it so!

Hope this helps.

I would assume you are refering to a samuri( scense they are the only zook that came w/ 3.73's) and as to my personal experience, I have 5.12 r/p's and the 6-1's and it is too low geared for the road(great on the trail). my sugestion is....if your going to drive it on the road a lot I would go to the 4.63 r/p's and hthe 4-1 t-case gears(t-case gears arent nessary, but they are nice). but if it is going to be a trail rig then go lower.
just my .02
by the way I have a set of 4.62's for sale all locked up w/hybred rear housing never been installed that we were going to put in my fathers rig that is now for sale ;)
