Yeah with some trimming they fit ok... still gotta beat the firewall back some where the fronts rub and hack up the back wheel wells but they fit and flex... ;D
-
ya know if you would just skin the front end with some sheet metal or tub that might look pretty darn good.
How bout 35's..
Are you running stock drive train?
-
that first pic looks like theres no air in the tires
cool
-
I still have the outer fenders im gonna cut down to make a "skin" for it. SHould look better after that. I am also gonna do a "comp cut" on the rear and trim the front side of the rear wheel openings.
Yes we run 0psi on a 15x8 and have no problems and lots of traction.

If you run your tires with low PSI, you get better traction offroading. Makes a HUGE difference.

Cool, I agree.. What is the ACTUAL measurement of those boggers at 0 pressure?? I am curious, as I want a set for the rear of mine for certain circumstances
-
They are still right at 33" with 0psi, but when you start going over rocks they tend to wrap aroudn the rocks and terrain instead of pushing the kick around.
-
Someone give me some 35's and Ill put em on there... but you might want to ship them with some T-case gears.
-
the pics are gone! sounds awesome though
-
Pics are fixed... forgot i rearranged my Photobucket page. ::)
-
what r&p and t-case gearing, and tranny do you have? are you having a hard time turning them? i'd expect that it would lose even more power with the 0psi. looks like fun! I'm about to make a tire purchase for my stock geared manual sidekick and want to get 33's but not if it's going to be drastically under powered.
-
ON dry grass if you revv it up to 6k rpm and drop the clutch it will spin the tars through second gear...
In low with the hubs unlocked it will spin them till you catch 3rd gear...
This is with the 5.125 R&P and stock case gears. Honestly though we dont ever use ours on the street, I wouldnt recomend 33's for a street driven kick with stock gears and trans. You would probably be fine till you got to a hill, then you would be winding out second or third gear and loosing speed.

Hello All,
I got a 90 Model with 2" Sky spacers and Skys 2" body lift 33"s and stock gears,It was a dog!!! Rebuilt the motor with 3 new valves and rings,Now I can run 70 mph up hill in 4th gear.It will run 85 on flat ground in 5th gear. But I added a DT header, mild porting, and new rings, and a K&N air filter. As far as trimming the fire wall,do Mikes front end mod.It works out great!!! You will like the turn radius with the 33's I bet I can turn in a smaller area than a stocker now!!! If I had no locker....It don't like tight turns on the black top !!!!

did you change how the top of the shocks mount? I thought those had that type of thing where bushings sandwich the shock mount instead of a bolt going through an eye on the shock
-
Not really a bushing at the top of the strut.... Its a strut not a shock, so it just bolts to the upper mount with 3 bolts.
-
I am talking about the rear shocks
-
looks good, i think we did the same thing on the rears. i had some rancho 5000's and for the top at the rear i just drilled holes in the stock mount to runa grade 8 bolt through it. moves around a tiny bit, but mine is just for the trails as well.
keep us updated on the front skins, i am planning to just make some tube fenders.
-
whats the backspacing on the rims?

is the cat converter still there?
-
Here's a couple of local rigs with 33's and 35's.
Home made 3" suspension lifts on both with 5" body on the black one and 8" body on the red one. :D

HOLY SCARY BODY LIFTS BATMAN!

That big body lift looks like absolute scary crap!!! CRAP!!!
Looks positively horrible, I would laugh for blocks after seeing something like that.

It has a 2 1/4" full system with flowmaster...It has a brand new SS Converter....LOL that had the guts knocked out before installing it....smiles.... Here a pic when I first put 33's on it.

Our kick has the exhaust cut off right past the cat.... sounds good. ;D
As far as body lifts.... they are all gay. Cut some steel. The skins will be finished hopefully next week... the fenders are fairly beat so its making it difficult to bolt back up.
-
BFH and a SAWZALL and you can fit 34X9.50's! :-*

I saw that thing at URE before I had the sidekick. Initially I was going to do something similar but the 34x9.50s are much more expensive than our free boggers... :P

agreed mostly. I think body lifts can have advantages like making it easier to fit rock sliders and making the exhaust fit up higher but I personally would not bodly lift anything over 1 or 2 inches. Cutting fenders is a much better idea in most cases I think. Many times when you lift a rig you have to extend the bottom out pads so the shocks don't bottom out unless you make new shock mounts. I know that on my GV that rubs stock tires in the back and front if it's thrashed enough that bottom out pad extenders will make bigger shocks work great once I lift it and probably make bigger tires bit just fine too. If I start really going for it some trimming will probably need to be done though.
anyways, that's my mostly pointless rambling

Are the shock mounts on a GV not mounted to the frame like the earlier models?

Hell Yeah, couldn't have said it better myself!
-
i'm gonna dissagree about all body lifts being crap. mine is a dd, i want to keep the body in one healthy dent free piece as long as i can. hacking up my rockers to put in rails in this case would be crap. just dropping rails under with no body lift would also be crap. also keeps things out of the water so less chance of leaking in when in deeper water, less body resistance when pushing through deeper mud/water..... as for the 5 and 8 inch lifts i will concur that they are not cool at all. whenever RR gets they're lifts in i plan on going for the body lift. it's only 2 inches... if mine was an old beater i wouldn't care about cutting it up either.. maybe next time we can all buy jeeps and just lift the suspension 6 inches... LOL ya right, i had my jeep for 6 whole weeks before trading.......

the shock mounts are identical to the 1st gen ones I think. welded right on the frame.
