Title: Bolt on Turbo Kit?
Post by: Jeremiah on May 16, 2006, 01:28:31 AM
It looks like someone is making a bolt-on turbo kit for the 1.6L:
http://www.turbinetech.ca/

Click on Products + Services, then click Turbo - has an example of a CLEAN 1.6L Trubo Samurai!!!

Do a search on Pirate in the Suzuki forum for Winter Sleeper Buildup and should find the thread and see his handiwork and yes it was for a 16v.

The pictures show a 16v TWIN CAM head from a Swift GT not a 16V head from the newer 1.6 engines. They may make components for both but I'm pretty sure the components would not be the same.

Irregardless, it would be a cool kit to have. I was following that "Pirate Sleeper" thread and I sure wish he would have finished that. It appears as though the owner lost interest.

Yeah - looks like the guy runs like 5-6 projects at the same time....

Looks like the cost is $2000ish without intercooler. His whole setup is done right - does all the "little" things - very well thought out. The guy's custom headers look REAL clean. It's smart how they re-locate the oil filter, so they can run the headers lower (easy access to spark plugs). I also like that they have an oil cooler setup - VERY smart when running a turbo. Also, not only do they have a wastegate, but the wastegate recycles the wasted air (doesn't just let the turbo spin wildly free, causing a stall).

I'm not much of a "do it because you can" kind of guy - for $2000 I'd rather do the 1.6L swap, and still have money left over for other toys (under pan armor, etc). Then... it's tempting to buy a header, and do the rest of the kit myself...

I acually have a kit from them....

it is very well built....just never got around to installing it and now it has a happy home sitting on the shelf....I can post pics if anyone wants to see it...or is interested in in for that matter

...in responce to the bolt on part...

NO...you have other things you have to do such as fuel managment, down pipe intercooler etc etc...

Its a bit of an inverstment to make it work but it is fun

Yeah, there's always more that needs to be done with a turbo. I'd imagine I'd need to get a different carb or a beefy FI (prolly need custom FI), bigger exhaust (2.5 - 3"?), intercoooler and locate some piping for it all.

Still - I've been thinking about running turbo for a while... PM me if you're interested in getting that thing off your self ;)

You can get a kit for the 2.7....but you would have to figure out fuel managment and source likely source the engine...I can talk to him if you want.

Wait, Im confused, what engine is that turbo for, Yoak?    Im tired from studying for finals and got confused easy in that thread.   If its for a 1.6 16 valve...... how much?!

Id love to have the ultimate sleeper car in my area.   Kick some ass around here with all the ricers!

Im sorry I see to be more ambigious in posting these days

How do you mean redone?   I have a Calmini header, is that gonna get in the way?   How much we looking at?

Ill take some more shots and post tommorow...

If you look at the setup...

There are 4 bolts that connect the uper portion of the mainfold to the turbo portion..

So you can simply replace the upper portion only...

But it will have to be fabbed...

thus your current manifold won't work

I would almost be afriad to see how quick it would be with a blower under there....

A true monster under the hood

1.6 and 1.3 ports are the same, so yes
it would fit the 1.3 engine

He is the one who made this one,

last I heard it was sitting as there were other things to take care of...

I was under the impression he was going to get it up and running

Yes, he put it on the market and was willing to part it out too. I toyed with idea of getting the complete turbo setup off it but in the end it was going to be to many $$$ to buy it and get it to OZ.

Shipping can be quite expensive on cars..I spent 1500 on my zxr...well worth it though in this case....

If you look here you can see where the maniold connects to the turbo poriton of the manifold...thus this can work on other cars but the upper portion would need to be replaced

I am still thinking about installing this...but an engine swap seems easier

Yeah - for $1500, you have a LOT of engine swap choices. And, you won't have to wait for the turbo to spool up.

You could turbo something like this, and make a cool Hot rod looking thing.... Hell - even put in a vortec v6 and prolly be a good little track car.
