I'm looking to put some flares on a stock 96 Tracker, as the wheel spacers kicked them out a bit to far to make driving on wet dirt an enjoyable experience. ;D
I have seen people mention the JC Whitney Flares, but they seem to alternate between the Surface Mounted and the Flare mounted sets.
Which set gives a better fit if you haven't done any and don't plan on doing any fender trimming?
There were a few pictures of a yellow kick with the surface mount, but all the older shots were missing.

3"inch Heavy duty without the wire. ;D
The ones on the 4dr are more heavy duty.
I bought them at a Big truck supply store.

Hey Bash. I need to get some for the SJ, but was looking to pick up a set for my new Toy. :) Let me know when we can hook up and I'll get that roll from you.
I looked at the pics of HotRods, but he didn't mention if he used the surface mount or the flat style.
*edit* Hah, just noticed HotRod replied up above. ;D
Those Pacer 2" look pretty good. Do you know if they interfear with the gas tank on the 2 door?

Hello, is this thing on?
Just kidding.
The pacer flares mount on the lip under the fenders.
So, if ya cut the fenders too much and not roll the edges, it may be a lil problem.
And no, they don't interfere with the gas door.

I think I'm getting surface and lip mount screwed up. :P
Thanks for the advice and pics!

Thanks for everyone's help and Bashum for giving me the flares at Elbe. I ended up with the 3" JC Witney flares, and a rivet about every 4 inches. The rivets had a 1/2" head on them, and I used 1/8" - 1/4" aluminum rivets.
With two people it took about 20 minutes per flare.
We marked the entire flare at every 4" with a pen. Once you line up and tap the front hole, you have one person hold the fender in, and the second just drills in next to the edge, then taps in the rivet and then use the rivet gun to lock it in place. Then you move onto the next rivet spot. Once you get into a rythem you can just zip right through.
While we were back there, I pounded the inner lip on the inside of the fender flat to get rid of some rubbing. I really should take pictures as we are doing things like this, but you get on a roll and just forget. ;D
Anyway, here are some finished shots on a Tracker with 1.5" wheel spacers. Next up is some 1" rear coil spacers and GV Front springs.

Those look great! Thanks for following up on this post and the install tips!! Might order me a set today!

Is it hard to take the inner lip out of the wheel wells. Did any one do something with the little ledge in the back wheel well that collects all that mud.
-
The inner lip on the inside fender was done in a rather hap-hazard way. I just hit it with a hammer. :P If I wasn't in China for the next two weeks, I would post a picture of the finished product. I will try to just explain it real quick here.
The stock lip comes off the end of the fender, where the metal is joined together.

__ - Fender Lip
I unfastened the bottom mount for the plastic flare, then just pounded the entire piece back around to the outside, to make it come straight off the back of the fender instead of the side of the Tracker.

You can then bend the mount for the plastic back out flat again, then bolt things back together.
I did not cut the lip off because I don't want to have to weld metal in to re-strengthen that area. If you cut the lip off completely, you are getting rid of the seam that joins the two pieces of body together, and just asking to have it seperate at a later date.
Bash - It's next to my computer, but I left for another country before sending it. Why don't you just come up to Walker in a few weeks and I'll give it to you.
