Title: 29 mpg!!!
Post by: urbanwheeler on May 21, 2006, 12:57:44 AM
Today I got 29.38 mpg while on a trip ;D. That is better than the epa mileage estimate of 28 highway. I usually get about 27, and 26 while driving around town. I have the timing set at 10 degrees BTDC, am running 215/75r15 tires, and run the a/c quite a bit. I am quite amazed that it gets the mileage it does ;D.

Eighty some views and no replies...  29 mpg is pretty good.  You obviously don't have a heavy foot.  I have found that with conservative driving habits it isn't hard to beat the EPA  estimates.

When I was shopping for a replacement for my Toyota last summer, I wanted high mpg, top reliability and mountain goat surefootedness.  I figured 25 mpg was as good as I could expect.  My Sidekick Sport has beat that mileage significantly and meets the other criteria.  These are great little vehicles.

my 95 2-door tracker stock with 8V has gotten 33-34mpg before, depending what terrain i'm driving it in.  It gets 28mpg all week long back and forth to work.  My red 4-door 16V recently improved from 23mpg to 25mpg perhaps due to a temp increase in the weather, or less humidity in the air?  I haven't changed a thing on it and the mpg has been going up and up.

Can't wait to get the 1.6L with the 1.3L head in my Samurai - I bet the lighter weight / smaller valves will be a killer gas mileage combo!

Our Tracker consistently gets 19-20 mpg just driving about 5 miles each day to and from the train station.  This is actually pretty good since short trips usually get the worst gas mileage.  Last week I drove from Connecticut to New Jersey to pick up an air compressor and I got 26 mpg over a 232 mile stretch.  Mind you I was driving mostly 70-80 most of the way and on quite a few stretches 80-85 if the traffic permitted.  It was pretty warm and had the AC blasting the whole time.

Watch your tuning closely. My friend has had a horrible time getting his weber tuned right for that configuration.

I'm not a big fan of the webbers actually. I was hoping I could keep the stock carb. I was originally going to go to fuel injected, but more and more, I think I want to keep the stock 1.3L head (my machineist buddy and I think it'll be better for low end torque / response).
