Title: Grinding when going into 2nd?
Post by: Element on May 21, 2006, 10:25:06 PM
Love my GV!!! I started noticing that when I shift into 2nd gear, if I am above 3,000 rpm it will grind a slight bit. At first I thought it was due to poor shifting... I started paying attention to this and it only does it when shifting into 2nd. Is this due to the gearing of the vehicle or am I being a bad driver? Anyone else notice this whith their GV?

Definitely take that in and have the dealer check it out. It could be a few different things: bad syncro, low tranny oil, clutch, clutch disengagement (low fluid/misc adjust), etc... many things. Have a pro look at it.

Well the dealer took a look at it and something is wrong with the trans. They ordered some parts for it, so in a few days I will have to turn over the keys and exercise my warranty. Thank God for that... They will put me in a rental... I wonder if they know I use my vehicle to drive offroad and through dense brush for my job... I better opt for the extra insurance. I am happy with its offroad performance. I have hit a couple of hairy, technical sections and with common sense, have been able to manuver through it swuccessfully.

They are not stupid, it's very easy to tell if a vehicle is used offroad to any extent.  If your driving through dense brush, you must be getting scratches on the paint which we call "desert pinstripping" here in the Southwest.

What kind "extra insurance" are you talking about, an extended warranty?  If you are, neither the original or an extended warranty will cover damage caused by excessive wear and tear as a result of taking your vehicle off road.

Sorry if you misunderstood... I was joking about the rental... The trans is not a result of offroad driving, it has had a light grind since i bought it a month ago. I bought it for work use... so before I drove off the lot I said a little prayer and excepted the fact that it will get its scratches right away... The terrain I drive is dirt roads a few have ruts and wash outs along with overgrowth brush...

Well, Most of my parts are in, waiting for one more piece that is on its way from Japan, I was told it would be about 3 weeks... Nothing like buying a brand new car and it not work correctly... Glad they were really cool about the warranty////

well they have had the vehicle for a 5 days now. They thought it was on schedule, then the trans shop told them it would be another week, They paid for a 5 day rental today. an 06 jeep laredo. I dont like it a bit. I had to pay $5 a day to get it, otherwise I would have been placed in a sentra.

So, what ever happened, is it fixed???  I remember a similar problem with the Aisin 5 speeds in the 1999 and 2000 5 speeds, I have one, it's  a syncro problem.  I just live with it and take my time shifting and it's fine, but I bought it used and didn't want anyone tearing into the tranny.  Hope it's working out ok.  Dave

They pulled the tranny almost 3 weeks ago. The trans shop still hasn't sent it back to them... I am thinking I will let them know that I am slightly unhappy...
Actually it is a little frustrating buying a new car and not being able to drive it. I have been out of my GV for 6 weeks now.

SUCKS!

Got it back and man... It drives soooo nice now... better than new!!! The dealer was getting the run around by the trans shop... so the dealer told them.... SEE YA! You won't get our business any more. They had my trans for almost 3 weeks and no one at the trans shop would have no info on it when the dealer would call.... but, I have it back now!!!!
