what companies make rollcages. i know calmini does and it is a really good price but does any body else make them.
-
Rock Rat was working on producing some Kick stuff. PM him and see if he has developed anything yet.

I'll tell you that INSTALLING the Calmini cage is...exciting.
I had mine done by a very skilled welder, and it took us 12 hours. Hope you don't mind FLAMES! We had a few "oops" moments, as things caught fire.
It's some really TIGHT welding.
And now, because I have a really long body, my head is always bumping into the roll-cage padding.
I got the padding from Summit Racing, I think.
-
Bob , was that your car body is too long, your body or your head lol :-)
-
that is the info im looking for i am 6'4" 320lds i don't fit well as it is thanks for the input.
her is a pic of me in the geo.

A good option for you would be like Mike Hagens. Front is open Cab with no cage but the rear had a VERY sturdy full cage. I would guess Mike about your height too. PM him and get him to send you some pics.

HaHa - I'm only 6 feet tall, but I have short legs, and a long body. So, my head is close to the roof in my 2-door. Other people that ride with me, their heads are BELOW the roll bar. Lucky me.
-
I see :-) , do you have the cage that comes around the dash and across teh front?
-
The Calmini cage "wiggles" around the dash, and has a bar across the top of the windshield, and the main hoop, that goes behind your head.

i don't ahve a cage yet and i was going to make a cage like mike kind of but steel is $8 a ft. for 1 1/2" .125 thickness dom tubing and it only comes in 20 ft joints that is $160plus i have to bend it all. i can't mess up because it is going to take about 18" to make a rear cage.

Why .125 DOM? it is overkill for a zuk cage. 1.5" .120 wall HERW is all you will need for a zuk cage. It goes for like $2.70 per foot.
Thanks
Wayne
And don't start with NHRA reqirements and such. you will never go 300mph in your zuk and if you do the cage won't help cause the frame will come apart.
-
no that is what we built a cage out of for my friends Bronco. were r u getting ur steel prices because i need to give them a call. they quoted me $6.05 a ft. for 1.5" by .120 thickness.

I don't think a Zuk would hit 300 MPH, even in free-fall!

Sounds like you are getting DOM prices. I get my stuff from Patton and Industrial metals they deliver free if ya buy over $200.00 and that is worth it to me. I have also gotten stuff from Rancho Metals here in town (Temecula CA) But any Metal suypplier should be cheaper than $6 per foot.
We use DOM for suspension parts and such. DOM stands for drawn over mandrel which makes the molecular structure similar to a forging. It is very srong very stiff stuff but overkill in a sammy or kick cage.
Use HERW ( hot rolled electricly welded) mild for your cage, no span over 3 feet and triangulate at least one section of both sides, you will be fine. If you are still nervous then use gussets and you can also use corner bends on any of the but joints too. Overkill again but looks COOL.

They tried a MINI once 128 was top speed the jumpers had to keep in a flair to not pass it up. a couple guys got in and acted like they were driving. the video from the camera guy at the wheel looked cool.
There is an 80 something senta out near canyon lake that is just demolised and about half stuck in the ground. I always wonder if the perris valley jumpers took it up and gave it a ride.
Thanks

I know a front cage would be Idea but several of us in our club have opted for just a sturdy rear cage. At least I wont get knocked unconcious by the cage when I tip over, and The top wont go flat. If I were shorter I would go with a full cage. In the future I may figure out a way to get a full cage in there... ::) ;D

GO TO READER RIDES LOOK AT THE BLUE SAMI WITH FLAMES THAT WE STRETCHED 16 INCHES THATS ONE OF OUR CAGES. PLENTY OF HEADROOM

I'm 6'3" (last time I check, I could be shrinking in my old age) and have the full Calmini rollcage in my Tracker with plenty of headroom.
I have the cage padded and just rest my head on it, this way I don't bounce my head off of it ;)
-
getting old sucks! i was 6'2'' at 18yrs old now im just over 6'
-
I wished I redid my main hoop to be like Mikes. Thats the right way to do it.
Tall enough to support the roof b-4 crushing it, not after.
I hope I'm not getting shorter. I do carry alot of heavy stuff all day and that will do it for ya. ;D
-
ya that is a good idea .but it would be harder to tie the front loop to it.
that thing does look stout

thanks guys am have a hydrolic bender here so i am going to make my own just in the rear however i am planning to run a bar to the front windshield upper suport and weld it in ther i will have to relocate my rearview mirror to the windsheild. i am thinking of tying in tto the side of the b-pilar. my main consern is my 4 year old co-pilot i don't want her to get hurt. what size and type of tubing did u use MIKE.

Here U go  :)
Top View:
(http://www.eye-irritant.com/august2004/Zig cage006.jpg)
Back View: Uprights allow for full movement of factory seat and stock seatbelt locations.
(http://www.eye-irritant.com/august2004/Zig 011cage.jpg)
Another rear view: Notice Sami Wind jammer rear window ( does pull tight but not tight in picture)
(http://www.eye-irritant.com/august2004/Zigcage 012.jpg)
Front view: Legs are a bit annoying at first but once I got use to it I like having the brace to sit my leg on while riding to hold myself in place tighter.
(http://www.eye-irritant.com/august2004/Zig cage013.jpg)
I plan on doing away with the rear seating all together (now I put the seat in when needed) and just use the rear for cargo. When I do this I will add cross supports to the middle hoop and a harness instead of the factory seatbelt.

did u weld in ur backing plates for your mounts or did u use backing plates. that rear window is sweet.
-
The entier cage is bent and welded into place. The mounts to the body are welded to the cage then bloted to the body by sandwiching the floorboard between two peices of plate of different sizes (to keep from sheering off). When I do the middle hoop support I am also going to tie the cage directly to the frame.

The rear window just happned to fit. I tried the Kick/tracker windo and it would not work with the roll cage. So I use a Kick Bikini Top, The Sami rear window and a Kick Duster Deck cover cut to work with the rear loop.

So which would be better, a Calmini Full Cage, or a custom rear-cage like Mike's?
-
well this was mostly about how big the driver is i'm 6'4" 330lbs so a full cage would take up to much space. that is why i'm doing a custom rear cage.
