Title: Calmini parts
Post by: RIKSTR on February 01, 2005, 05:02:54 PM
I want to get a set of Calmini front arms for my GV ,but have been told that they only come in the kit

I already have a lift so does anyone know how I can get some arms?

You might want to move this to the Garage Sale
area, and appeal to somebody that's parting out
a lift kit.

I was thinking about this as well last night. Why not sell individual parts? They rear wishbone they sell would be a nice adidtion as well as their front lowers. Seems like a win-win to me?  ???

Rear wishbone would be of no use to you unless you have the rear control arms to match then, longer springs and shocks  and same for the front  so you might as well buy the whole system  ;D

If I was Calmini and put my R&D time and $$$$ into developing the system I wouldn't be selling it in bits either unless you can prove that  you  brought the complete system from me and have damaged some on it, I suppose that makes me an a$shole as well  ;D

Never seen a Calmini Sidekick Suspension part damaged.  This stuff is STRONG.

Are you serious about this?

What if I wanted to put it on my Sammy that I'm turning into a 3 link and I didn't need the other stuff.  But the wishbone link was PERFECT for me.

Think about it.

Sell a part, make some profit, make a customer happy.

They'll replace broken parts if you prove that you bought it from them.  (seen the 3rd link joint die on 2 different rigs)

Well if one was doing this I'd presume that they would have enough engineering skills to fab up there own as even if you got hold of a Calmini one you'd still have to fab the mounts up any way, wouldn't you ?

Maybe,
But if I can find the perfect part(s), but it's not for sale unless I buy these other 10 parts to go along with it.

It goes back to the; sell a part, make some profit, make a customer happy too (win, win) situation.

You don't get those synergies when they won't sell the part you want.

P.S.  And I'm not just talking about Calmini here, this applies to anybody who's in business to sell anything.

I agree with natebert,
my GV is great, the suspension is nice and soft and works well. All I need is the front arms, mainly to stop the tyres scrubing at full lock.
Its all profit, why not sell just some parts, like the diff relocting brackets or arms. They sell the rear arms seperate! :-/

Of course you may expect to pay more over all, if you buy all of the part individually then you would if you had at one shot, in a kit.

On the Track/Kick you can't fit the A arms without the front diff drop brackets. The A arms are a tad wider and the driveshafts are then around 3/4" too short.

I think you probably hit the nail on the head right there.

Most people out there would expect Calmini to know this, and warn them of this if they called in "just to order A arms". Most everybody would be pissed if they spent the extra money on the a-arms, installed them and then realized they needed to buy more parts to make it work. Then people would expect them to "warranty" their parts that are being installed into peiced together lift kits, in god only know what configuration.

Personally, I would not sell peices if I were them. I think it would end up being more of a headache than it would be worth.

Hmm... I hadn't noticed this before.  I'm hoping to get the Calmini suspension eventually, but I wonder if my front skid plate will still fit if the the diff is dropped.   Anyone know how far it is dropped?

It is NOT dropped below the crossmember.

Thanks, that relieves that worry.

if im not mistaken its 2inch drop on the brackets

Then that would mean you are not changing the CV angles much at all, right?  If you install a 2"-3" lift and drop the diff 2"s..... sounds like there is room to upgrade the heck out of them ;)

You wouldn't achieve much by trying to drop it any more as the pinion is stilling in the same place on the X member - only the two mounts on the end of the housing are lowered with the drop brackets. The next step would be to cut and lower the whole x-member to lower the pinion as well.
