on monday, me and my parents went to Sweden.
when we had diven some 2 miles, the clutch pedal made a bad sound.
afterwards the pedal was HARD! and it has to be pressed all the way down, and a bit into the carpet.
when starting, it has full pedal 2" just abow the floor :-\
today we inspected it carefully in the areas we know the Zuki has some faults, and it was the most expensive thing that has happened to my grand vitara :(
i have to replace the clutch house. it costs approx NOK 9300,- or approx. $1200 :o at Suzuki
lucky me, i hawe a friend to help me out and a friend of my father has a shop we can use.
my fathers friend is also good at welding aluminium, so i feel lucky if i can fix it for 1/5 of the
dealer's price.
Suzuki Norway had 14 clutch houses in stock, so this is not the first time it has happened ::)
:-X-JUST SO F**I'N IRRITATING THAT IT HAPPENED TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
puh, just had to get it out :-[
anybody else with similar experiences?
-
Bummer man.
About two years ago the clutch went out on my Ranger. Naturally this happened in the middle of a snow storm in January at a restaruant that my then fiance had just applied for a job at. It was also 2 weeks after we had moved 3 hours from any of our friends and family and most importantly, away from my mechanic friends, sources of cheap parts, and heated, dry work spaces. Then just to make things "funner" I was starting college in 5 days... :(
So something that weeks before I could have fixed myself with friends for a couple hundred dollars cost me $900 that I had to ask my father for. Wonderful...
At least the place got it fixed the next day. Most places wanted a week or more to do it. ::)
-
I'm sorry to hear that. At least, did you get to Sweden?
Wow, that's pretty expensive! :o
By the clutch housing, do you mean the part that goes between the engine and the gearbox? I suppose this part is specific to each type of engine, so hopefully only Mazda engines have this problem :-\
When I changed a seal in my engine (in warrantee) the mechanic had to remove the clutch. He said the disk wasn't perfect, that maybe it would be a good idea to change it, as Suzuki was paying for labour and I only had to pay for the disk. But when we knew the price (240€) we both thought it would be better to continue with the original one... 15000kms later it's still fine :)
-
that sucks, I am lucky because my grandpa who had my GV before me couldn't drive stick to save his life and I couldn't either for a while.. I do fine now but for a while it had a rough life.. don't know if that effects the clutch hose or whatever like what happened to yours but I'm sure it doesn't help it any
good luck dude, sorry about that
-
i got to sweden and back, when i drive it my leg gets soar. :P
it's like a rally clutch :'(
we will start to remove the gearbox on wedensday, we can also borrow a jack to remove it :D
i generally i don't like to fix cars, but when we got the proper tools it's ok.
i just hate to fix cars in ice when it snows and blows
now i'm glad i got the suzuki scervice manual ;D
my mom let me use her Toyota hi-lux (the 4WD pick-up, if it's named different in the US)
i like it so much that i must fix my ZooZooki fast :'( or else i can be converted to a toyota guy ;)
-
being converted to a toyota guy isn't always a bad thing.. you could always be a toyota and suzuki guy. hulux's are nice and I wish we had the diesel options on those in the states like the hilux offers
-
today we took the engine out, it was easyer than i assumed 3hours :D
-even the exhaust came off without problems ;D
but, we did run into some [x**x] problems. :-[
over all, it was a easy task when you got help from a skilled mechanic.
i had a Peugeot before, everything we did on that F****N car was much worse!!!!
but when you got a laptop and the Suzuki scervice manual it helps a lot ;D
i sure hope it's possible to weld it.....
-
Wow, thats pretty fast! ;D
I don't think we were much quicker in removing a Sami engine ::)
Don't forget about the fotos! :D
Good luck!
-
engine? wow, i should hawe written gearbox :-[
anyway, now the gearbox lies on the floor.
i took some pictures with my phone, didn't get so good pictures when i work at the same time..
but i will trye to post them sometime.
-
damn, someday when I replace my clutch I am in for a real project.. sounds like a PITA. good luck man
-
Ah, now that's more reasonable, I have no idea how long it would take to remove the engine in a GV, there are loads and loads of stuff to remove. The Sami engine is... well...much more simple ;D
Anyway, good luck. Shall you change the clutch anyway, now that you're at it?
-
the clutch is in very good condition, no point in change it. expensive and time consuming.
the welder told me to get a new clutch house, he strongly reccomended it.
after all, it's not that funny to take out gearboxes ::)

not funny.
sory for the bad quality on the photos, they are taken with my Nokia6230 (0.5 megapixel and dust on the lens ;))
if what happened between picture 2,3 and 4 had been caugt on video, it whould most likely hawe sounded like an episode of "Osburne's"! ;D
my friend made a lot of nasty words during that part of the operation ;)
-
yesterday we replaced the gearbox, it came on easyer than we expected..
used less than 10min to enter the gearbox on the engine, but it was tight...
will come back with pictures later.
-

Congrats man...
I was thinking about your rig today as I was looking at gas prices...mmm...diesel... :P
-
thank you, diesel is good when you fill the tank :)
before i chip tuned it i run 0,82L/10KM, after tuning and K&N: 0,65L/10KM!!!
i'm not sure hou that turnes out in Mlies/Gallons, but it's economical ;)
-
I'd kill for a nice diesel SUV or small truck but there's not much here in the States. When we got our GV a year ago diesel Jeep Liberty's (Cherokees in your area) were brand new and going for twice what we paid for our year and a half old GV. Other than that my next option is a fullsize pickup truck or SUV. It'd have a diesel but be WAY bigger than I need.
-
do the '06 vitara come with the 129HP DDIS engine in the US? i think it will be nice with a chip ;)
the XL7 still comes with the 107HP engine here in Norway, better gas mile age than the ddis.
i think it's because of the 4x4 system on the new vitara.
i like the twin stick better..
-
America's never gotten a diesel Suzuki anything. :(
-
nice to hear your ride is fixed BeerMan!
