I know the Samurai has a 10.6 US gal Fuel tank. The Sidekick a 11.1 US gal [ 2 DOOR ]. Do people like the Capacity or wish they had more?
-
I would just settle for the gas being cheaper but a few more gallons of fuel would be nice if you could make a small tank that would work with the stock tank some how above the rear diff maybe and have it inline so you don't even know that it is there.
-
I was just talking about that with someone.
I would love to have a larger tank....
200 miles isin't really that far to go on a tank
-
Yes I would love to have a bigger capacity tank. 170 miles is not far enough at all;especially in the back country.
-
For a larger capacity samurai tank, contact Petroworks www.petroworks.com for their polyethylene fuel tank, holds an extra 5 gallons over stock.
Only thing I'd like to know is it could be adapted to fit in a Sidekick ;)

Needs more for sure, i don't like reading empty after 9 gals or so..
I would like a 15 gal tank....
-
I spoke with Gary (|removethispart|@ petroworks) about that, he said there is no way it would work
-
I'd just like better gas mileage. My 90 gets about 20 mpg in the summer and less in the winter. Darn automatic!! I've driven 2 fairly new Trackers and the best they got was 25 mpg. Those of you that are getting 30 must have manuals.
-
Only time I ever got 30mpg was going to NV...going 75-85 consistantly
-
I usually get around 25-27 a gallon right now with a 96 manual. 225 is about all the more I like pushing the tank between fill-ups.
Still, it's a lot better then the 17-20 Supreme I got with the Talon. ;D

I'm almost afraid to ask how much this is.

$369.95 :o

Semi-related question but how many of us 11 gallon tank owners can only get 8-9 gallons in during a fill up? I fill up once a week on the same day and generally go almost the same distance every time. It seems like no matter how close to empty (or below) the needle is the thing will only take 7-9 gallons. I got 9.5 gallons on the first fill up but the thing was EMPTY.
I know you can never truely fill them because of vapor in the tank but 2-4 gallons worth of an 11 gallon tank?
-
It has a very big reserve 2.1 gal or something, which i hate, I like E to be E, I usually get 9 or so a fill up, but have seen the needle go down to the 2nd line in E before and still only got close to 10g...

$400 (pluss shipping - which isn't ceap with BIG boxes) for 5 GAL of fuel?
Jerry Can. $20. Done.
Weld your own tank - Cost of material + welder = prolly $100 or less. Done.

Of course... if you build your own gas tank, you'll need to find a sending unit that will work.... hmmmm....
Anyone have a summet catalog handy? Maybe one of those racing plastic tanks will fit?

Or we could install a fuel cell....
I don't think it is the best option though

Fuel cell - heh - that's what I meant :)
I have not been under my sami in a while... but maybe I can take some measurements and sketch out a plan for welding my own tank.

I like the extra can setup. I installed a 20 gal tank under the bed of my willys PU (easy with no emmision hookups) and had 45 gal total w/ factory tank and two - 5 gal cans. when I filled it up I could barely get up the hills. With extra cans ONLY, you can shed weight if you have to.
-
Exactly! Its so easy to bring along extra gas using Jerry Cans. Bring along two 5 gal's and you got over 75 liters of gas, thats if you've got a full tank [ with the 2- DOOR ]. I personaly would bring a utility trailer [ if possible ] when going on an excursion or whatever SO storing it wouldnt be too much of a hassle. Though you could just bring it inside the SUV. I am sure alot of people have small utility trailers? The only thing I think would have been better [ for 2-doors ] is if Suzuki had used the larger capacity 4-door tank! Yes it would be kool if a Sidekick had a 20 gal tank like the JEEP Cherokee, right.

tHIS WILL DO!!
-
For Samurai people [ DONT KNOW IF YOU'VE SEEN IT ] I found this.
-
In my X-90 I get around 27mpg in the mountains, it actually drops on the interstate to around 22mpg. Since it's tank is the same as a 2 door Track/kick, that goves me around a 200 mile range before needing to look for a gas station. After driving it back from Florida spending 42 hours and 1316miles on the road, I can tell you that by the time it needed gas, I was usually more than ready for a stretch break! Of course I realize that most people don't travel so much in their Zuks and that the range just determines how often you need to get fuel during the week, but I don't mind the range on long trips. It give me an excuse to stop, get out, stretch and look around some... 8)

tHIS WILL DO!!
Only 5-6 more and Im good to go :P
-
Well - 5 more Gal is a 50% increase in range... I'm still wondering how hard it would be to fab one. I could build the bottom plate really thick to make a kind of "built in" armor / skit plate.

This is so silly.....need extra range? Buy a couple jerry cans, a stick or flux core welder and steel to fab a mount on the tailgate for them! If you don't go nuts w/ the welder, you'll still come in aboult $100 shy of the petroworks 15 gal price tag and about 5 gallons over the final capacity(and you will have a welder at the end of the day!).  Besides, all the folks who are complaining about getting 20-23mpg should hang out w/ some jeepers....in stock form my 4.0L buddies get 14-16 mpg and the 2.5L 4 bangers are jumpin for joy when they get 21mpg......... and thats pussy footin it!ÂÂ
No matter how amy times you gotta fill up, gas will cost too much. I'm hoping to find a 5 gallon fuel cell so I'll be a little lighter. Maybe less weight will equal better milage....or at least better hill climbs! Either way I can mount it high up and worry alot less about hittin my tank!
-
I would think the added weight on the tailgate would cause the hinges to fail. Would probably have to figure out a way to mount the can inside, or on a swing away door.

I'm making them at the moment here in NZ, holds 63Lts (16.6 Gallons) constructed from 4mm alloy with a 6mm bash plate under it.
Retailing them for NZ$ 520 which is US$335ish ;D
-
Now if you could just make me one for a 2.0 V6 lwb and post it over that would be 8) ;D ;)
-
I would be interereted in on 8)

Next on the list is one for the Escudo/Vitara 1600, I don't think there will be enough interest in them for the v6's to make it worth while pursuing :P.
-
I would be interested in on 8)
I don't know what sort of $$$ postage would be from New Zealand (Southern end of the pacific ocean and no, not a state of Australia) but if your keen I'll check in to it, just PM me an address.

my Gv has a 15 gallon tank, I bet it would bolt right in a 1st gen vit/kick/tracker. I get over 300 miles a tank with the 2.5 litre, imagine how far you could go with a 4 cyl. but now that it's brought up it would sometimes be nice to have a bigger tank even on mine
