Title: Rocky Road Outfitters + eBay = Great Deal
Post by: MKOLSEN22 on May 25, 2006, 09:26:34 PM
Today I just received  three wheels from Rocky Road Outfitters.  They had them listed on eBay and I must say that I got a heck of a deal on this odd numbered set.  The wheels are 15"x8" with 2.5" back spacing, and yeah they are an inch wider that I would have ordered and a little more shallow back spacing than I would have ordered but the price was right.

They are raw steel so I'll need to have them powdercoated.  A local shop gave me a bid for $20.00 per wheel.  I was thinking about going with a satin black which should look like the "Teflon" coating that everyone is putting on the alloy wheels now.

So now the next question.  If I run coil spring spacers and a 3" body lift should I look to put 31x11.5R15's on the new wheels or should I look for some 32x11.5R15's?  I'll keep the new wheels and tires for off-roading and continue to use my LT235/75R15's for daily driving.

In the future I might look at putting on 33's and running a Sami transfercase behind my current set up.  Any free Sami t-cases out there?  (Obviously if I add the sami case the 33's would be the daily driver tires.)

I'm having a blast with my little rig!!

Ok here are some pictures.  First the front.  Second the back side.  Third the inside.  Maybe I should have them powdercoated clear.  What do you think?  Nah.

For the forth wheel I can just order one from Rocky Road at full retail price of $60.00. Then I will have a complete set.  I might end up ordering two and then my spare would be the same size / offset.

How much did you pay per rim? Even with the $20/ rim powdercoating price it was a deal?  Why not just prime and paint them?   If you're gonna wheel them(and judging by the tire choice I'm guessing they'll see some dirt) then chances are that no matter what coating you use, you'll scratch them up either way.  Two rattle cans full of Black gloss and one of black primer would only cost you like $10-20 to cover all three rims.  All the items I even bought in powder coated form are scratched and rusting just as much as the painted stuff, other than my interior mods.

You sound like you have my luck.  Usually once I crack the powdercoating, it's all down hill from there.
I vote for good old rattle can myself.  It's easier, not to mention the fact that touch up paint can be found anywhere...lol

I new I remembered seeing a review of the RRO wheels.

http://www.off-road.com/suzuki/reviews/rrwheels.htm

He used 3 cans of primer and 5 cans of paint to put SEVERAL coats on the wheels.
