About a month ago while wheeling I had to back out of a mud hole. As I did my engine sputtered. I reasoned that it was because mud was packing into my exhaust and so i had to keep the revs up. Well that wasn't it because it is also doing it anytime there is sand or incline, etc. Only in reverse (5 speed), Hi or Lo range. Any ideas why it is doing that?
A friend suggested I disconect my back up lights and see if there is some kind of a short that effects the ignition. Haven't tried it yet. Was wondering if anyone else had an idea also as to what could cause this?
Watch this video and you will hear it do it a few times.

hmmmm, I heard it.
You definately have SOMETHING going on there don't you..
The first thing I would check is motor mounts. I had a chevy truck that would die every time you tried backing up a hill or something. It had a bad motor mount, and in reverse, under load, it would flex the engine and ground out the hot wire to the distributor on the fire wall... we like to never found it.
I am not sure there is anything that would ground out, but it is worth looking into. Just pop the hood, put it in reverse, and stand on the brake, with the hood up and get someone to carefull look.
Yeah, I would check the backup light circuit too, not sure what else it could be, that is weird.
Nice to have the video to help diagnose it though.. that's cool.
Hey man, you are NOT going to believe your Trackick when you finally break down and get that locker installed!!
also, how much air is in those tires?? I bet you could walk some of that aired way down..
I do love your rig though, I want a 4 door badly.

I had the same problem with my old honda. Turned out to be a bad spark plug wire in combination with a bad motor mount. Every time I pulled away from a light, a cylinder would cut out. The wire had an internal break in it. Every time it was moved a millimeter one way it would deny the cylinder of spark. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I am still betting on a motor mount..
Did you find it yet???
