Title: Another Tire Question
Post by: noff21 on May 30, 2006, 07:38:14 AM
I have an oportunity to get a set of 30X9.5X15 on Samurai rims....... Currently my suspention is stock.  How much lift would be required to fit these 30"s on ?

You could probably get away with a 2" lift if you don't mind taking some out of your fenders.  The standard SOA would be just about perfect.

So a 2" shakle lift will do the same??

No, that would only give you a 1" lift.  Since you only lift one side of the spring with an extended shackle you get half the lift.

It might give you enough to clear the tires, but you would probably rub a bit when going off-road.  But for road use, it would probably work.  A set of 2" lift springs shouldn't set you all that far back.  Or you could do a RUF conversion and cj springs in the back.  Or just go to YJ springs.  Either conversion should give you the room for 30" tires.  Not a lot of room, but some.

I'm going to rant about sky's budget lift again :)

$380 spring over only other thing you need to buy will be lower front shock tabs.

Comes with oTT steering fix. I have been running it for almost a year now and I love it.

this is my rig on 32's I drive it daily with 235/75/15's to keep the cops from pulling me over for tires sticking out too far.

With that SPOA what shocks will I have to go with?  I just want to cover all my bases before I start into something like this......
What if I threw the SPOA and a 2" body lift?  or would I even need a body lift?

Body lift shouldn't be necessary with that size of tire.

You should not need a body lift at all for 30's I'm running 31x11.50 swampers and I don't rub too much course it might be good if I put bump stops back on my rig.

Well good question on the shocks in the rear if you didn't buy lower shock mounts you would just reuse the rear ones.
The fronts I would say get ones that compress to around 12 and extend as far as you can get them to extend.
I bought Rancho rs5115's and at full compress there was not enough up travel so made for a horrible ride, my nickname in my 4x4 club is "Pinball" always bouncing and never on the ground course that is different now since I have shocks that work better and bigger tires.
got that on a 12 hour drive at Naches Washington. with wrong shocks and 235/75/15 inch tires with that much lift. pm me your email and I can ship you the pdf's for rancho's specs and shock lists. or you can see if you can find them on Rancho's web site.

The best way to find out what length shock you are going to need after doing any lift is to remove the shocks and find someplace you can cycle your suspension to full stuff and full droop. and then take the measurements from shock mounting point to shock mounting point.
Unfortunalty the laws of physics don't allow me to have the shocks I want,
compress to 12 and extend to 24 or 25 :)
