Hello,
I am about to get a 3in calmini body lift and plan on getting new tires. I was wondering what everyones opinion is on the BF Goodrich all-terains and mud terains. Size will must likely be 235/75/15. I do a lot of back woods trail riding, mud, and snowy PA roads. I do alot of on-road travel to as this is my winter commuter. Thanks

if you get the AT's your not going to like them in slick stuff but they are probably a better winter/snow tire. that's the only advantage i can think of.. also, you'll likely be able to fit 30x9.5 no problem. i've only heard good things about regular driving with the bfg muds. enjoy.

The BFG AT is a great all around tire leaning towards a road tire. They will ride good and give you a long life as long as you rotate and balance regularly. If you are going to be on muddy trails/roads much you may want to the the BFG MT's. They are a decent riding tire that will give you better trail performance and a shorter life.
If you are mainly snow and road, the AT will do great for you.

I'm a big fan of mud terrain's have had them on many a rig, after a few years of use I get them siped in the center for ice, with your rig being so lite they will last almost forever, I have only lost two of them in twenty plus years of using them (I used to get them cheap) I am running a knock off of them now because of the price and they work great also.

Its important to choose a good make and deisign! Tires make all the difference in all your driving conditions, BF is a quailty brand.

What is the name of these knock offs. Also I have a really good set of winters that I currently run all the time that are the stock size. Would it be ok to swap back to the stock size winters for the winter season or for a long trip with the 3 inch body lift. That way I could run mud tires during the summer.

They're are a few knock offs of MT's - Khumho and Hankook to name a couple, they look similar.

COOPER is also an excellent make of TIRE!

X3 The AT is also better for rocks
Just got my General Grabber AT2s installed today. They ride quieter, smoother and seem more grippy(word?) than than the BFG ATs and the tread looks a wee-bit more agressive, cheaper too 8)
The only question left is how tough the side walls will be. I don't want to be the crash test dummie for that.

BFG AT tires are also excellent in sandy trails. I use a set of them here in florida with great results, provides lots of sand traction.

Sounds like the all-terrains would be my best overall setup. Now the question is what size should I get. I have on the way a set of US Wheels rockcrawler, 15x8 with 5.25 backspace. I also have on the way a calmini 3" body lift. So what size would be the best with this setup. Thanks

You sure its 5.25" of backspacing? Thats an awful lot and will probably rub. You dont mean 2.75" backspacing do you?
As for size, Id say 235/75/15s or 30x9.5's would work. Your choice. The 30's are a bit bigger but, shouldnt rub with a bit of body lift.

I was looking around and if I ever want to do the calmini suspension lift I would need 2" - 2.5" backspacing. So I hope Rocky Road will let me change things up a bit. Any one ever deal with them are they pretty easy to work with.

I found these Cooper Discover A/T for $380 mounted and balanced
Good A/T and D.D. tire.
31x10.50
This style was discontinued
(probley why so cheap)
Runs perty good at 25psi
I Do have 32" BFG M/Ts if I ever get a Steel 3rd and off-Road it.
Till then, it's my D.D.

For backspacing, I like around 3.5"-3-3/4" or so. Seems to clear really nicely and still tucks in the wheel wells on turns and full stuff...

i run the older style cooper stt's, they work well off road, ride smooth on road but are very noisy after 30km/hr, my little truck rattles from them at 10-20km/hr in town.. can't complain about them other than the noise. people tell me they can hear me coming from a long way away and would expect a big truck to be coming.. lol anyway i'm sure the newer stt's are even better!

General also makes a BFG AT knock off. I just got a set for my X-90 (in 235) love them
thicker sidewall than the BFG's too. (that is the one issue I have with BFG's is the thin sidewall)
and alot cheaper.

Yikes, those are for jeeps. The bolt pattern and the backspacing are wrong. $60 is a steal for four wheels, not sure if they will let you switch up the wheels for something else.

I have always had good luck with Mud King Steel Radial tires. They wear great, ride smooth for a mud tire. That and they will get you where you want to go. (The Mud)

Yeah I saw that price got excited and mixed my numbers. But I talk to the owner and since they have not been shipped yet I can pay the extra and get what I need. I think im gonna get 15x7 with 2.5 or 3" of backspace.

235's are only about 29inches, 30's are a little taller = MORE clearance.

Every tire maker lists their sizes by different criteria. Both my 31-10.50x15 BFG AT's and my 31-9.50x15 TSL Swamper Radials measure only around 30" tall actual when mounted on the rims...

If I slap your new coilspacer kit in and my 3" body lift what do u ponder is the biggest tire I can fit with no rubbing and no cutting. Oh and on 15x7 rims with 2.75-3.00 bs

My 2" spacer lift, a 3" body lift, 15x7" rims with 2.75-3" of backspacing? 31's should go on with no rubbing at all, no cutting and 32's might rub a little with no cutting. I would suggest 3.75" or so of backspacing instead of 2.75" though. 32's would probably clear nicely with 15x7 rims with 3.75" of backspacing... If you stick with less backspacing like 2.75", the tires will stick out further from the fenders, will throw more muck and rocks up the sides of the body, and will rub the back edge of the front wheel wells as well as possibly the front edge of the rear wheel wells and the rear fender lip on full stuff...

x2 - though... we're only talking the difference of 1/2 an inch of clearance between the two. They're basically the same tire - the 235's tend to be cheaper since a lot of mid-sized trucks use that size from the factory.

Does anyone deal with Big O Tire? They produce a tire line up exclusively for there company and have an excellent off road selection with a killer warranty! BiG O also has over 550 stores accros North America so replacements would never be a problem.

I looked a little after seeing some good reviews. I was looking primarily at the Big Foot XT until I got a quote.... they wanted $200 a tire installed for 235/75 R15. For that much I'll get a Wrangler MT/R or BFG's. I ended up with the Cooper STT... they rock ;D

I had Dayton MT's on my chev and they lasted 2 years with lots of on road and some off road driving but on a zuk or tracker im sure they would last a lot longer... they are fairly less inexpensive also... i would give them a lookin at

I'm planning on getting 235/70R16 general grabber AT2's. glad to hear they work well. I was noticing the slightly more agressiveness apearance and the outer part of the tread looks like it's not so wide open and I'm hoping that aspect helps them last longer. I was told by the dude at the store that they should last a little longer than BFG at's.

That was the thing with Big O when I lived in SoCal. They had some nice tires but for the extra they wanted for their "excellent warranty" I could have gotten much larger tires. Ended up at Discount Tire.
Maplebar, where'd you get the Coopers? When I lived there, 97-01, you couldn't find a Cooper tire dealer without going to Escondido.
Not to mention Big O is NOT country wide. There's big sections of the country that don't have Big O dealerships...so plan for that.
I'll say it again, if you want to hit the mud SKIP AT's. Most AT's will suck in the mud within a few feet.
