Title: 5speed Rebuild
Post by: toolman21 on June 12, 2006, 12:43:28 PM
I was starting to tear apart my transmission to rebuild it and I can't seem to get the case apart before I stopped working on it for the night.

I took the bolts out of the short connector section in the housing that connects the transmission to the transfer case.  They don't seem to want to seperate.  I do get a small amount of movement/gap, but not coming loose.

Before I pry it apart is there something I am missing to get them apart? I can probably mess around with it and figure it out but I would *prefer* not to break anything for my lesson. :D

Any other advice before I get it completely torn down?

Thanks

Yeah I had the shifter housing off, I just had to pry on it harder.  I got it all apart, but the front bearing on the main shaft was exploded.  The inner part of the bearing had actually fused itself to the gear.  Haven't figured out how to get that off...not sure I can so it looks like I might have to build my other transmission.  >:(
