looking to pick up a IFS lift for my 97 4 door sport in the next couple months. just curious what guys are using for the sports? i would prefer to not have to fab my own stuff for this rig, the wife drives it to work daily. just looking for some more clearence and room for some better rubber. it is a auto tranny, how do the body lifts work with the auto shifter? maybe a susp/body lift combo.
any pics of sports you have seen with lift would be cool as well.
i picked up a new roof basket on friday, works great. went camping all weekend.
LOL

do a 3 body and 3 suspension it would look sweet
-
what suspension lift? the sport models are different than the regular 4 door? know of any lifts that are designed for the sport?
-
The only thing that is an issue is the diff drop brackets in the Calmini 3" suspension kit due to the wider chassis spacing. Other than that what works on a normal Kick will work on the Sport taking into account spring rates for a lwb and a slightly heavier engine. Talk to Calmini if you want to go that way as there may a some diff drop brackets to suit the Sport in the works. The Old Man Emu gear bolts straight on if you are not going to wild. What size rubber do you want to run?
-
just some 29" or 30" with some more agressive tread.

one guy had a sport model 2 door hard top I believe (2.0 litre V6 which I think only comes on the sport model) and he did a calmini 3 inch suspension and used thier GV front springs to hold up the extra weight of the engine and had to modify the diff drop brackets. I think he made them drop even more and I don't know what esle. I think he has like 5 inches of suspension lift somehow

thanks, what ites are on it now? just curios with the sport and the 3" lift how big of tires can fit?
looks good though, maybe i will order the calamini kit.

a friend of mine had 31's on his non-sport model kick that had the 3 inch calmini lift and they would ocasionally rub on the top of the front fenders and I don't know abou the back. the front bumper skin was trimmed too. I would immagine your flares may interfere a tadd and I realize your frame is different than his but at least you know 31's pretty much fit on a non-sport model
-
thnaks, i have 31's on my 2dr.
guess i will look aorund at diferent lifts?
what do people like? what have oyu found better than calamini?
thanks

I haven't found anything that will offer the nice control arms and new rear links that calmini offers. I think if you really want that stuff you need calmini. I have noticed Boondox makes a nice lift for kicks. don't know if the axle drop brackets would work on yours.. you'd probably have to modify
www.boondoxmotorsports.com
that should be the right link. the only cons to the boondox kit that calmini doesn't have is that boondox uses stock control arms and links. it's a great kit but those calmini links and arms are really nice. I can't get over how dumb calmini is to include a new set of struts for the 1st and 2nd gen vits but they are not longer. they just space the strut mounts... if you are going to make a strut for a lift kit make it LONGER! I called calmini and asked about it... I couldn't believe the stupidity of a kit that nice with a stock length strut spaced for extra down travel. sure strut mount spacers work really well and everything but wmy make a stock lentgh strut for a 3 inch lift?
anyways, yea, check out boondox, well priced nice lift that probably doesn't ride stiff like I hear calmini does

well, still haven't goten around to doing anything to the 4 door yet. been doing some home renos. :D
may just try and throw a nody lift in it for now. i have never done a BL on a truck with a auto tranny? anything diferent?
i would like to lift my bumpers to match as well. any suggestions?
thanks

It's easier as you don't need to do anything about the auto due to it having cables. :)

I installed the Rocky road 4.5 inch combo kit on my vechile, works pretty well and quick and easy to install.

Jay,
Do a search for "2.0 V6" and you will see a swb and lwb "sport" Kicks with the calmini kit in.
This is a kit that has been developed especially for these vehicles.
The swb sits on 235/85x16 rubber ( 31's actual ) ( no body lift ), the lwb sits on 33's ( 3" body lift ) with a bit of trimming so 31's are an option.
