First time since I got my Tracker:
SOMEONE CALLED IT A "LITTLE JEEP"
I am filled with rage...
;)
-
lmao, a friend i talk to in england is constantly calling mine a jeep. i've tried and tried to tell her it's a tracker but it's no help :P
-
tisk tisk.. can't they read the "chevy" or "geo" emblems? fools
-
yeah, i have the same problem, some friends of mine call it a jeep just to watch me get mad.
i told them i would buy a jeep and then they could call it a sidekick. that would really make them look stupid..
-

actually i took my emblems off... it was rather beat looking... but still yeah it's not like it doesn't have tracker written on both sides and geo on the back lmao
-
;D

I hear ya. a couple people have ignorantly assumed my zuk was a subaru including my dad.. well, he called it that on accident a couple times. I like subarus but I don't have one! those fools! it's not like the suzuki emblems are that apearent on my GV but the S up front is way different than a subaru emblem.. I mean what do they think it is a gay tribecca? much better than that

I believe that someone posted recently that virtually all small SUV's in the UK are referred to as jeeps.

that would explain it... i'll have to ask her about that.

Girls around here constantly so this... And I have a small confession to make, I bought a 85 cj-7 on thursday night with 4" and 33's so I will be doing a spring over to get ~7", but none the less I will keep my zuk for when the jeep brakes! ;D
-
yup she says they like to keep it simple over there, lol... cars are cars, trucks are trucks and suv's are well.... jeeps lmao

thanks
=D
(i have to load the pics i took the other day when
my neighbor parked his scion next to mine)
but yeah
I hardly ever say Tracker
because if I do they cock their head and look at me funny
then I have to say "sidekick"
even then......
-
Ha when I tell people I am going wheeling, they instinctively ask ...in what? So I tell them it's a barbie jeep! Then I rollup in a lifted locked swampered tracker and there instantly interested.. I think I get a kick out of the shock factor. I get eyeballed alot in Orange County! ;D
-
I would be willing to bet that a LOT of people on here also own jeeps, but dont really say much about it for fear of retaliation 8)
I am in that group, but I admit it and don't have a problem with brand/model rivalry, different tools for different tasks is how I look at it. Besides, it's not like any of us have a choice to pick up a brand new sidekick/tracker or even something from suzuki that's equally capable, at least us in the north american markey anyways..... the rest of the world gets the jimny, but consumer reports and GM have made sure that won't ever happen here.

I guess I don't speak to clearly because everyone thought I bought a tractor when I first told them I had bought a Tracker. Now I tell people I own a sidekick and they seem to understand me.

lmao, that's funny too cause that's what my daughter used to say. and when i first got it she asked what it was i said a tracker(now she is only 4) and she said that's not a tractor, pappy has a tractor, lmao... i had to sit and explain it to her :P i think she told her mother(we're seperated) that i got a tractor too :P
-
I've called mine a Jeep before.... to me it's more of a "type of vehicle" rather than a brand, even though I am wrong, it's just a habbit, and I can quit whenever I want.
-
That's hilarious Milk, my son refuses to call it anything but "his" monster truck. He's 3 and loves it. If I call it a tracker he corrects me and tells me to only call it a monster truck
LMAO

Thats what I have to do.
;D

The way I understand it, the word Jeep
comes from the military usage of the WWII
style 4x4 GP vehicles, but the GIs called
them jeep, the name carried over to a
civilian line of 4x4s known as Jeep, that was
bought by AMC, and then be Chrysler, and now
by Daimler, parent corp of Mercedes.
Weren't older Suzuki's called LJ's ?
I thought that was a Little Jeep designation ?
Jeep is really a generic term that was taken
into a brand line, kind of like that thing you
blow your nose with ........... Everybody calls
it a Kleenex

One of my nephews whne he first used to talk always said Uncle Kurt...Tractor. Of course, I was usually on a forklift when he saw me. But, at least he knew it wasn't a car. ;D

In Brazil the CJs sort of started a branch of vehicles so now all small SUV are called "Jipes"..
on my vitara's document you can read under the vehicle tipe... jipe
My document is actually funny on it you can also read that it can transport five people ant that it has a horsepower 00cv ...it happens : )
I call mine a jipe and so everyone does...I think the CJ was one of a kind and created a new kind of vehicles that's all...
By the laws definition to be a jipe it has to have four wheel drive and a low range box, and jipes can use a diesel engine( cars can't it has to be either a jipe or a truck and so on), it has no size limitation... so the 110 defender are jipes and so on...

I had that happen to me in an auto parts store of all places... I asked for a wheel bearing for my Tracker and the guy behind the counter said "we don't carry tractor parts here, you might want to try tractor supply co..." LOL!
-
My 2 year old son loves both my Tracker and our lawn tractor. He can distinguish between the 2 words and know what each is.
-
one of my friends said his dads friend called his samurai an "ISUZU" ::). Kindof funny I thought. they mustve related it to the boxy yet much larger trooper ;D. Yeah, its kindof funny that people think that just because it has a removable soft top that it is the poorly engineered and manuafactured disaster known as the Jeep ;D AKA "Heep" ;D
-
Tissue,Kleenex. Suzuki, Jeep.
If you look at the whole jeep line, they had a pickup and a grand wagoneer etc. I like to think of the jeepy looking things whether it a willys, samurai, sidekick, old toyota (the jeepy looking one), or any other jeepy looking vehicle as a jeep. Maybe even, in this case, the little jeep. It's simpler and if referred too as a jeep, it takes only one syllable. Ha ha!
In most cases, if someone calls it a jeep, they don't mean it as an insult or a compliment. Therefore I take it as neither, just what it is. Your friend is just trying to give you a hard time. I would let it go in one ear and out the other.

I have no problem with Jeep / Toyota / Bronco / Whatever - I have a Sami 'cause 1) I'm a starving student, so the Samurai is much more "affordable". 2) I lean towards Japanese engineering.

me too except I have a slight pickle with nissan.. they just seem like 100% trying to be toyota to me. but other than that variety is great and I like japanese engineering myself as well

I think of Nissan as the Pontiac of Japanese companies. Most of their products tend to be a bit more performance oriented than a Honda or Toyota. Plus their early 90's products are extremely reliable. I have a 1991 Nissan NX2000 with 165,000 miles that runs like new. My family has had 2 other Nissan from this era with over 140K miles on them and still going strong. I've heard that their newer stuff may not be as reliable though.
-
yea, my sister's maxima seems to be holding up well but I was comparing my friends hard body to toyota stuff and it just doesn't seem to come close to the quality of toyota.
kind of in dissagreeance with the comparison to pontiac but not completely
-
New nissan trucks SUCK offroad. They're made very flimsily. Did everything they could to reduce rotational weight.
Their cars are pretty sweet. I'm a big fan of the 240SX and Maxima's. I think The Altima is better than the Civic.
I like Toyota better... but Nissan's pretty close and usually cheaper.
-
I actually have a tracker that the title says Geo JP. I asked about this once and it seems that the body style was all depending on the person that issued the first title for the vehicle. they didnt use to have SUV so i actually have geos that are titled as MP (multiperpose) CN (convertable) SW (stationwagon) and JP (jeep) as the body style talk about confusing

I just keep it simple and call them trucks. "suv's" based off trucks like 4 runners and excursions are trucks to me as well. I dislike the term "SUV" because it sounds too yuppie
on the deal about nissans sucking off road. I pretty much agree unless they are highly highly modified. the ifs on hard bodys looks like a total moron desighned it. don't think they are really flimsy or anything but just poorly desighned. 240 SX's are nice and i like those allot. my sister's maxima is a 95 and it has a solid rear axle and front wheel drive which I personally think of as a poor desighn seeing as how 92 sentra's had rear independent.. they took a step backwards on that one if you ask me. in my opinion there is a good reason toyota's cost more
-
But the Toyota's and Honda car engines don't put out nearly as much power as the Nissan's.
Back on topic, Illinois calls my Tracker and my Montero Sport a 'CARRYALL' on the license plate renewal.
-
didn't check on honda and nissan motors having more power but...
I have something that really burns me. people keep calling my zuk a car! when I say it's a truck they say it's either a car or SUV..... they don't get it. you don't need to have a bed on something for it to be a truck! it's just an enclosed truck... I dislike the term "SUV"
and my friend who has a 3 inch body lifted nissan Hard Body and 33's with 1.5 inches of suspension lift and stock shocks who can't go into 4 low because of his body lift thinks he'd lose me on the trails. what do you guys think? my GV with about 2 inches of lift up front, about 1.5 in back with 2 inch lift shocks and ome struts against that? I am pretty sure once I get 29's I can take 5 minutes to disconnect my sway bar and go everywhere he can. I have better gearing too.. especially in 4 low ;)
oh yea, he keeps calling my zuk a car.. what a fool. one of these days I might have to see if his nissan is all the hype he says it is (I doubt it)
