I am running on a budget like most of us...... I have a 2000 tracker bf mudders home made body lift, lock out hubs, welded front end, works well but it's hard on the equipment, I am going to install a soild axel , somethen with leafs so it's easy'r to set up. I have seen some that use toy axels, but would a sam axel fit with the wheel base of an 00, this would eliminate wheel spacers of swaping both axels. does anyone know the messurment of the axel of a sami, or jeep, or toy's 4 the front end or have any helpfull info,
??? ??? ??? ??? ???

SAM axle 52"wms-wms
Toy front and rear 79-85 55" WMS-WMS
Toy REAR IFS years 58" wms-wms
Dont recall the dana stuff off hand
-
Samurai axle is gonna be too narrow without wheel spacers (been done on the older Trackicks before).
I think the Dana 44's I got off a Scout II are somwhere between 58" and 60" wms-wms.

Not only will you have to be concerned with the axles and t-case ds flanges, but also a steering box. 00 Trackaras are rack and pinion steering.
-
Thanx 4 the quick response on the axel length, As far as the flange I can always cut and weld the drive line with two different flanges. The rack and penut does have me worried a little, it is mounted infront of the front diff so mabey i can modify the linkage to work on the swaped axel. I am a little green in some of the terminoligy "wms" is to the wheel or ???????? When I know what wms is i will check mine and try to find a comparable axle or mabey I will have to swap both, I would just rather not due to the timeline, I still drive it daily.

wms = wheel mounting surface

Just remove steering box and the linkange thereafter and replace with a Toyota IFS steering box and a drag link. ;)
-
well the problem with the rack and pinion is you can't use it! It willnot work with a solid axle. You need a steering box and drag link from an older track/kick or a toyota ifs vehicle.
also the comment on driveshafts is because the tracker tcase has slip yokes front and rear and that makes it hard to have driveshafts with any large amount of slip.

I just got done with my solid axle swap in my 94, the track width is the same as stock.

So by the sound of it I should take the steering equip with the soild axel I choose. I still need to messure my wms but i will post them soon, Thanx 4 the info I am currently just gathering info so I can do it all at once.

This is a good idea!

Depends on what you take it out of... the early Toyota guys (stock solid axle) swap out their steering boxes for IFS boxes.

my axel is 59 so i can now narrow it down. it was hard to mesuure with the brake sheild in the way, but it would be hard to notice an inch or so difference if i was to choose an axel close to it.........right? I would just like to stay away from spacers if possible. is there anything I should look 4 in an axel with spring distance 4 line up on the frame?

I used axles out of an 82 toyota pickup and the priches were perfectly matched up to the tracker frame, and the axle was no wider then the stock tracker front end, I dont think I could have picked a better axle for the swap.

here is a web site that gives all kinds of axle widths and what side the input is on. http://www.offroaders.com/info/tech-corner/facts/axles/axle.htm

Thanx 4 the new info I will try to post the pic of my tracker and post the future build as it happens because there will be more 2 follow as they get older.

hi
i'm using the axles from a 87 toyota pick up (hilux over here) after measuring up, the spring mounts line up exactly with the chassis rails on the front and the radius arm mounts on the rear.
i've only got to extend the front of the chassis and make a new rear crossmember for the rear.
fingers crossed.

I was speaking to someone last night with a 00 tracker, we were talking lifts and he mentioned he had seen a drop kit for the rack, has anyone heard of this? If there is, that would make the swap a little easier.

I'm still going to suggest that you swap out your box. Rack and pinion with a solid axle isn't the best of solutions :-/
