Title: Tracker Fuel Tank in a Sammy w/Skid Plate and Tank Lift
Post by: aftermarket4x4 on June 29, 2006, 04:31:24 PM
This is the Tracker 2 door fuel tank with my new gas tank skid plate all swapped into my Samurai. I used one of the prototypes which in my own Samurai so it has some imperfections in it and has since been revised. The Tracker tank skids in production now have different drain holes and fit even better. Swapping in the Track/Kick tank also included lifting the tank approximately 3 inches for more clearance and it gives an additional couple gallons of fuel capacity and has a built in fuel pump for doing Fuel Injected motor swaps.

The drivers side mount was moved over about an inch and a new mount was welded onto the pass side of the crossmember. There is also another inch or two of shock clearance for those of us who move their axles rearward for for an extended wheel base.

The exhaust is not in the truck at the moment, but there is plenty of clearance for 2 1/4" exhaust to fit between the frame and the tank.

In the rear the factory mounts were removed and two holes were drilled into the rear crossmember and bolts were welded into them to screw the tank into them. Fairly simple if you can weld and it raises the tank nicely.

Now I need someone to install one in a Tracker with the 3" fuel tank lift to show how it's done.

I would love to have a larger tank... Was this a hard job to tackle?

Nice work, its really tight in there huh? I almost did this on my 88.5 before I sold it.

Wasn't too hard. The tank fits with a little moving around of the mounts and you would need a 2" body lift to do it without the filler neck hitting the frame. It is tight, but there is definately enough clearance for the tank to fit in.
