Every now and then my speedo shows my speed to be about 2 times what it really is. Happens only when I start the engine, not when I'm already in motion. Reads twice what I'm actually going. If I stop and turn off the engine and restart a few times then back up a few times it seems to correct itself. Then sometimes it doesn't go back to normal and reads wrong all day. Then next day it's fine. No noises, no wobble or anything like that.

Anyone have a clue?

The VSS could have gone bad, or you could have a short.

It might just be a dodgy cable, there have been a few other posts like this in the past.
-
Update: It doesnt affect the mileage on the odometer. It also doesn't wobble when it does this either.
What does VSS mean?
-
mine does it constantly lol

vss= vehical speed sensor
-
OK where is it and what do I do about it? Anyone know?

There is a drag system in the needle mechanism,
sometimes a little piece of crap gets in there and
creates extra drag, and pulls the needle higher

Mine has now settled on being 10 MPH slow. Every once in a while it jumps around, spins around, makes a bunch of noise, then settles back to being 10 MPH slow. I am just used to it, 45 = 55 etc...

If you're not in motion than you're going zero MPH. Two times zero equals zero. Thats what mine says when I'm not in motion. I guess we have the same problem.
