Title: engine clatter
Post by: puddlejumper on February 05, 2005, 01:06:56 AM
Hi everyone!

The puddlejumper is acting up again.

I finally took my truck out 4 wheeling yesterday, and durning that time I was reving the motor much higher than I have since I bought this thing, in the 5-5.5 thousand range.  The engine seemed just fine and put out PLENTY of power (I will now keep this thing till the frame rusts in half.

Anyhow, on the way home, I noticed the engine making a clattering sound when I apply power.  It actually sounds like excessive valve lash.  It only makes the sound when accelerating, and is worst when there is load on the engine, ie: driving.  It barely does it if I just rev the motor from a standstill.  The truck now has 96000 miles on it and has never had the lash adjusted as far as I can tell.  But will reving the motor hard for awhile cause this to become noticeable?

Thanks

That's piston slap, common sound,
worse when cold, I bet you blew out
some carbon buildup and can hear the
loose pistons, not to worry
