Title: Building a Snorkle???

Has anyone built a snorkle for thier Sammy, I would like to make one but don't know where to start.  A direction would be nice, a list of parts, and some pics too.  Thanks. ;D

MOst sammy drivers make them out of waste pipe from your local DIY store with a couple of zip tags holding it on around the car radio antena. you can get the push fit connectors and bends as well

Usually cut out the little grill part on the bonnet. The way to test it is have it ticking over and put your hand over the end, if it stalls you have a snorkel.

Only down side is you may need to disconnect during the winter as you will suffer from carb freeze

So when you build it do you connect directly to the carb or do you go through the air filter box??  I would think you would go through the filter.   ??? ???

You definitely want to keep an air filter in there - but if you can manage to switch it to a K&N filter, it would be a big plus.

the ones i have seen go through the air filter box but be sure to have a tube of silicone handy to seal any drain hole up

Here's one I built for a mates 413.

It's built out of exhaust bends that we cut to the correct angles and weld together. The rubber bends thru the guard are from a Nissan Skyline inter cooler.

You can use PVC if you don't have access to a welder  but I like steel as it takes a beating and doesn't deteriorate in the sun like PVC.

The lid on your air box has a neoprene seal which is probably stuffed so take it out and replace it with some silicone O-ring rubber to make sure you 100% water tight and as Mark said fill the drain hole in it, I used hot melt glue for that.

tracker8wr, what did you use for the top?  I need something to keep the rain from running down the snorkel.  I live on the WET side of the Cascade Mts. in Wasington State, we get some pretty good rainstorms.  What size pipe should I use??

IIRC  It is a rain cap for an outdoor electical connection.

it is an out door electrical cap i was 1 1/2 or 2" i don't remember right now but i can measure it tomarrow. i do have a bit of air restriction an my motor complains about it but it functions so i added in a cutoff under the hood for street operation but it is not shown in the pics.
