Title: kick gears in sami, Highway driving?
Post by: Awsume Suzi on July 12, 2006, 02:56:15 AM
hey, does any one know what a 1.3L samurai with stock t-case and 31" tyres would rev like at 60mph/100kph with the 5.12 ring and pinion kick/vitara gears in, would they be to low for offroad as well as highway driving? or would the 4.30 kick gears be better suited on/offroad ;D? Just brought my first samurai, its a bit of a shiny lol  :P

Go to izook.com, there's a gear calculator in the tech section that should give you an answer.

5.12's will be to steep for those tires if you plan on driving it highway speeds.  33's would be lowest size for 5.12's

4.62's are good diif gears for 30-31's gives u 20% reduction in high and low, and brings back 5th gear.

Think i will buy some 4.30 kick gears, would the 4.30's ring and pinion be good for 31's with out doing any thing to the t-case?

Updated:  I just look at the gear calculator at http://www.izook.com/gearcalc.htm
and it worked out that it would do 56mph at 3500rpm with the 5.12's in 5th gear, stock t-case and 31's on. that is fast enuff for me on the high way. Does that sound correct?

thanks for the replys

doesnt sound right to me I think it would be reved out with 5.12's and 31's with 4.62's and 31's at 60 your around 3800 rpm

it looks correct on the rpm and will only go to 3900 with 4 to 1's if you change them down the road, the stock motor will rev real high all day long so your good to go.
