Title: Strut cover/protector
Post by: mfoster442 on July 21, 2006, 05:01:35 PM
Hey everyone.

This may seem like a stupid question...

When I put my Boondox Lift Kit on, the black over that protects the shaft on the stock strut came loose from the top.  I put the extenders on and have the struts reinstalled.  How do you refasten the black plastic covers to the top?

The ;arge washer should go on the strut, the plastic sleeve cover next then slide the strut through the strut mount and bolt it on. I messed mine up so I bought some strut boots (just like a shock boot only bigger) from trailmaster. They cover the whole thing and keep the shizit of the shaft and seal. I will dig up the part number and post it later.

If you could get the part number that'd be great.

To reinstall the plastic cover, do you have to undo the strut up top?  What about the strut/shock cover?

Thank you so much for the input.

best,

I thought about my question...

Of course you'd have to undo the strut up top to slide a boot on...

Okay...it's friday...been a long week.

I have strut extenders installed.  Will this make a difference for reinstalling the platic protectors/sleeves?

Also, I don't believe mine had a washer on them when I took them off.  I'm not clear where the washer goes.

Anyway, thanks for all of input.

The washer is the bottom of the bushing for the strut mount.  In stock form (on my tracker) the washer for the bottom of the strut mount was installed inside the shield, keeping the shield at the top.  When I installed my extensions I noticed that the shield would come up so high that the lower part of the strut rod would be exposed.  I wanted to keep the strut protected like it is stock so I installed a washer on top of the strut to hold shield up, then installed the exenstion, and inserted washer, bushing, washer and nut into the strut mount.  I also used some rtv sealant to keep the keep the shield in place so it doesn't move up and down or rattle.
