Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and new to Suzuki's. I recently picked up a 90 2wd Sidekick as a comuter vehicle but I really miss the 4wd capability of my other vehicles. What all is needed for this swap? Is it a bolt in? I found a complete 4x4 Sidekick in the junk yard and was thinking about grabbing the needed parts to do the swap. I searched but didnt find anything. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

u have 2 options makeit a straight axle with a sammi case or yota case or y can swap everything in. yes all the 4x4 components bolt up. all the front including rotors, knuckles, front housing, mounting brakets, front drive shaft, t-case, tranny, rear axle ( incase the r&p is different), the console, mounting plate for boats, and rubber boats. i may be missing some thing i think it would be easier to sell and pick up a 4x4 modle.

It's a major involved thing, it is a bolt
in thing tho. First you need to get the
right gear ratio autos are 4.62 and 4.30
depending on year and engine, and 5.12
are pretty normal for a Man Trans, but there
are variations so check before you buy
You will need the T-case, front axle and hubs,
I know there are bushings in the 4WD spindles
that are not in the 2WD so you might as well
get those too, unless the bushings come out
easy, get the front CV shafts and the drive shaft,
then head to the inside and get the shifter boot,
knob and any other different stuff like the center
console, I don't know if the wire loom is the same
as the 4WD, if it is there should be some plug ins
for the 4WD light in the instument bincle, you might
need to put a bulb in too so it will work, 4WD Low
too

you might have to drop the front steering center

Might be even be easier if ya found a whole 4x4 for parts.
I've found some whole ones for as little as 450 bucks.

I don't  know if the wire loom is the same as the 4WD, if it is there should be some plug ins for the 4WD light in the instument bincle, you might need to put a bulb in too so it will work, 4WD Low too
The 4-LO switch and light were dropped, either in 94 or 95. I know the 4-Lo light WAS present in 93, and it is NOT present in my 95's. The Low Range switch "port" is still present in the transfer case, but there's just a metal plug in it, and there's no connector in the harness for it, and no light in the dash. So, if I'm in 4-Hi or 4-Lo, I just get the 4WD light.

Wild and Bob, good info. I have one thing to add, in swapping the parts on our old tracker to the new one before we sold it, '89-'94, the '94 2WD didn't have the drivers diff. housing mount on the frame. All others were present. Just had to cut the old one off and weld on to the '94. ;)
