Title: Esteem 1.6 swap to samurai?
Post by: rkteckt on July 25, 2006, 07:16:11 AM

Would I need more than the following list of stuff to swap a 1989 esteem motor into my samurai?

FUEL INJECTION WIRING HARNESS, ECU (MANUAL TRANSMISSION), STARTER, ALTERNATOR, INTAKE, EXHAUST, ALL SENDING UNITS, VACCUM UNITS AND HOSES, DISTRIBUTOR, COIL, **DISTRIBUTOR 45 DEGREE ADAPTOR, REAR WHEEL DRIVE WATER PUMP PIPE, AND MISC. BOLTS

I appreciate any advice, thanks

Esteem cams don't have a gear on the end
for the 90* distributor drive, the other stuff
you listed should come off of the 8V engine
as it's all the same block. The head on the
esteem engine might be a throttle body instead
of a MPI engine, and you might be able to run
that with the TBI setup existing on the 8V engine

I hear that Hawk's will use the esteem cam for
a core, you might swap with them to get a cam
with a gear

Good Luck

The engine is complete, so would i really have to use much from the samurai engine?  Also, the description says a 45 degree distributor adaptor, does that remove the need for the new cam?

I have never heard of a 45* distributor adapter
but if it's a 90* and it's a running engine, yes it
would work for the sammy. You might need a header
if the exhaust isn't compatable with the sammy, and
you will need an adapter to fit the sammy trans, unless
you swap to a 1.6L driveline also, sorry I didn't see
the Sammy part of this equasion in my first post

No problem, I appreciate your time,

The guy whos selling it says he has everything needed to swap it to a sammy included, and that its identical to  tracker motor
