its been awhile since ive posted here, mainly cause i had to switch IP's, but also because ive got a big project. i just bought a 92 suzuki sidekick 4X4 for $300, and im currently pulling the G13B motor out of my swift and im going to put the twin cam G13B head onto the sidekick 1.6l block!!! :o :o but dont worry ill post pics and a write up as i go along. basicly ill have a good torquey low end, which will be perfect for wheeling, down the road i might go turbo also, but we'll see!!! ;D

thats why im doing it. its been done alot outside the us, should be around 115-120ish hp with a few small mods.

I think I would have done this if I had a 16V 1.6., piston cutouts and CR could be a problem on the 8V. The twin cam engine 1.3 isn't that uncommon over here, I'll be very interested in how it turns out. How does the combustion chamber size on the 1.3 compare to the 1.6?

as far as the piston cutout problems, i think all you have to do is use the pistons from the 16v.
and you will need to do some head work so it flows better

Except the 1.6 16v SOHC head flows better than the 1.3 DOHC head unless you get pretty extreme with the porting.

yes the sohc from the 1.6l flows better but the 1.6l heads are known for cracking. i just want to do something different.

The early heads had some issues with the castings but it shouldn't be an issue now as they would have either failed and been replaced by now or are ok.

i have 2 spare 1.6l 16v motors, the swift G13B DOHC motor, and the 1.6l 8v motor in the sidekick.. maybe sell the G13B and build something like this... :o

I think that the 1.6 SOHC head can potentially flow more if you're looking for extreme power, that seems to be what the Swift boys say. The 1.6 SOHC makes 95bhp stock, even with its smaller capacity the 1.3 DOHC makes 100bhp, so it would seem that in stock form the DOHC setup is superior. With a DOHC the intake and exhaust cams can be rephased independantly so you could trade off some top end power for much stronger bottom end.

I looked into this quite a bit some time ago when I was considering the same conversion. The stock 1.6 16v sohc outflows the stock 1.3 dohc head and even outflows a mildly ported 1.3 dohc head. Put them on a flowbench and you will see. I agree about the plus of a dohc head in that you can have the ability to adjust the intake and exhaust timing seperately. If you want the bling factor then go with the dohc 'cause it'll look cool.
