Title: Calmini 3" BL question...
Post by: cablesmurf on August 01, 2006, 11:33:05 PM
I'm getting ready to install the 3" BL from Calmini on my 94 tracker. I noticed that they want you to tac weld some of the square blocks in place. I have no  welder or welding experience, so my question is this..is it absolutely necissary, or can it be done after the BL is installed? (I'll need to drive it to a buddy's shop)

Thanks in advance,

Smurf

It would be pretty hard to squeeze those squares in after the body is bolted back down.   You also have to weld the 4 wheel drive shifter and heat the transmission shifter to bend it.  If you want to do the body lift then drive it without the the squares in you should be ok to get your buddy's shop(no long distance hauls or anything).  You will have to unbolt the lift again to get room to tack those squares on.

Does you buddy have a portable mig.  Those work great.

Okay, so the squares don't bolt in?

Nah, his welder is at his shop.  Guess I'll have to buy a small mig and teach myself awfully quick. :P

You can drive awhile without them. I wouldn't wheel with out them tho.
I haven't put mine in my 4dr Yet.
And they'll still slide right in there.

I cut some pipe that was a little smaller then the rubber bushings 4pcs total little more then the height of the body lift blocks. Then when you set the body down it will hold them in place. I even put a couple of dabs of black silicone till I could get them welded worked like a charm and the pipe looked alot better then the square tube did. If you decide to use the square tube just tie them in place with some wire ties you don't want to have to unbolt the body a second time. Hope this helps.

i wouldn't worry about it, i made my own bodylift and i don't have anything in those places and i have been wheeling and used to DD it for about a year . .  no problems
