I have some lower bearings that are clacking for a rebuild or replace of my motor. I noticed Calmini has a rebuild kit for $570 does anyone know of any other rebuild kits?
I was curious to hear what people had to say on the rebuild with aftermarket parts or the replace with another oem motor. Would there be any gain in HP or torque from using a kit like Calmini's?
What does the community think?

How many miles are on your engine, you might need a new crank etc,,I prefer complete low mileage engines , a rebuild is only as good as the person who rebuilds it and will cost considerable more than a good used engine..

Do a search for 'do it yourself engine rebuild' that should give you all the info you need on rebuilding a Zuk motor.

I just talked with a shop that wanted 3500 to rebuild or 2500 for a used motor both out the door. Does this sound right?

As I recall I payed around $3000.00 to have one rebuilt a long time ago....
altough, I got a new rebuilt engine about a year ago fro around 2000, but it had been modifed with better compoinets....I suppose it comes down to what you are looking for

Wow! Sounds way to high, Not sure on rebuilt prices but good used engines should be in the 600.00 to 1000.00 bracket ..Maybe consider a donor vehicle..

a rebuild is good if you can do it yourself but again until you tear it down you wont know what exactly you will need. an autowrecker would be your least exspensive way to go.
derek

i'd get another low mileage engine, or a remanufactured engine. in the long run, it will most likely be cheaper and more reliable. (unless you are a good mechanic)

I got my engine for $650 from a place called Attarco attarco.com (http://attarco.com)

that better be for intalled or your getting ripped off. a rebuild shoud be between 1000 to 1400 depending on the quality if parts thay use or replace.

no engine offerd is low millage thay are lying to you. if you had to throw away a engine after a few thousand miles would you buy a new car.

The 3500 is everything out the door. New parts, new header, and it is a ballpark it could be less depending on the shape of things when they get to it. I was weary of a jdm or used because the previous owner, cousin, had the same issue where the oil ran out and before the idiot light came on the damage was done. He replaced the engine then and low and behold the same problem. If I have it rebuilt the shop guarantees to fix the oil burning issue. Suzuki rings was what they figure the culprit was. I'm still trying to justify the price tag for either but I dig the truck and so does the wife so........
Used mtor - 2500
rebuilt - 3500
Having a kick ass time in my Suzuki - priceless

When my sammy engine went bad. My mechanic told me to buy a used low mileage engine. He said it wasn’t worth it to rebuild it. The used engine was the better route.
In the end I got lucky and was able to get a hold of all assemblies. A complete bottom end, head and carb. I had Petroworks assemble and install it. They also rebuilt my transmission.
