Title: removing axle from diff?
Post by: skandy32 on August 05, 2006, 12:33:55 AM
i've got a broken front diff on my vitara/tracker, i've finally got around to swapping it over with another froma donar veichle.

One side (passenger side, uk) unbolts from the diff, but there doesnt appear to be any bolts on the other side! How do i disconnect it??

Thanks
Andy

It just clips in, you just need to prise it out. I used a crowbar, sounds crude but it has a nice wide flat edge so there less chance of damaging anything. If there isn't a circlip on the end of the driveshaft make sure you fish it out of the casing before reassembing the axle.

oh ok, easy peasy then! I imagined it might be somethiung like that, but wanted to check first.

im a bit confused what you mean about the other bit though, I have a circlipy bit on the end of the hubs, is that the bit you mean? Or will there be another one inside when i prise it apart, that i've got to be careful to spot before rebuilding?

Thanks in advance!

The shaft is held in by a wire circlip. It has been known to come off when pulling the shaft.
