Title: Clutch Noise
Post by: TysonS on August 06, 2006, 09:10:29 PM
Ok, I just go back from a long weekend wheein and camping trip.  Here is one new noise. . When im sitting at idle with the clutch out it makes a noise like a butcher is sharpening his knife with alittle more "grind".  And when i push the clutch in the nosie goes away.  I was mudding all weekend at the local mud bog and im wondering if the clutch has mud/water in it or the throwout bering is wrecked?

Thanks boyz and girlz (like the "z"?) ;D

Mine also makes a nasty squeek, its when the engine has warmed up, each time the pedal gets pushed in and out. But i can only really hear it at idle.

I took it to a garage, and they suggested a new cable, but this didnt fix it. Elsewhere people have told me my clutch has gathered so much crap inside, it just needs regreesing, but im not THAT mechanically minded, and i've never got around to taking it into a garage.

I think yours may be the same, just some mud and grit or whatever inside.

Yep either dirt, mud on throwout bearing, or the bearing itself is going bad, mines also been bad for couple thousand miles, loud!

so, is there a bolt to take out and put a hose in there with it running and let it clean out?

You could drill a 1/2" hole intop of your bell housing and take the bottom inspection cover off and quarter car wash it clean, i did my sammie that way but mine has a rubber plug that comes off.

is there a way to clean it without driling or cutting?

yes you can tale the bottom clutch cover off and go to the quarter car wash, lay down under the car (ramps help put it in 4wd) and blast it with warm water and soap for a while then rense it out real well.

You know, sammi's do all make a noise at idle with the clutch out.  Your description is especially hideous though.  After you spray it out...#1 Leave that inspection plate OFF so it can act as a drain and #2 you'll probably stil here a bothersome buzzing, humming, whining, or screeching noise to some degree.
