Ok..so I picked up 2 front diffs from a Track/Kick for cheap, I figured...what's the worst that can happen...I get one 5.12, and one 4.62?? I will just sell or trade, and get a matching set. But little did I know!! I got them out of the front axle housing tonight so I could look at the gears, and something doesn't add up!
According to the count the teeth, and divide method, one is a 4.40, and one is a 4.10!!! Maybe I am doing it wrong!
The 4.40 I assume is a 4.62?? that pretty close. But the 4.10??? they never came with gears that high??
Is there another Suzuki truck with the same style front axle?? the axle splines look bigger in one of them too....too big to fit a sammy axle anyway(and no, it's not a rear chunk...it was in a front independant axle!!)
here are the teeth counts:
ring 40, pinion 10
ring 37, pinion 9
correct my math, if I am wrong!

I came across an axle that was a strange
count like those too, I just figured I counted
the revs of the driveshaft wrong, tho no matter
how I was counting and careful I still got a strange
count, like a 3.70 or some such thing, I never
did get the diff out, I was just trying to get some
other parts and thought I would check the ratio
I wonder somtimes, this stuff gets strange, especialy
when you think you know all of whats out there, then
you find some queer duck, like your 4.11s :-/

Are you sure it doesnt have 8 teeth on the pinion? What year did you get these out of? Something is miscounted.

I am pretty sure it was 9 on the pinion...I can check for sure in the morning.
I don't know what year they came out of...a guy came up and offered me a crap load of parts for cheap...they where part of it.
I got:
1.3 engine, 5 speed Sammy trans, 2 complete axles, the Track/Kick fronts, starter, alternator, and some other small goodies for $150.
I'm not hurt even if they are wierd!!

I swear I was counting right, I turned the hub and the driveshaft was turning a strange # of turns, I was puzzled,
I ever had my brother hold the other side so it wouldn't
spin ............ Or was that the problem ???
Ohh I think I may have seen the error of my ways,
if you lift one wheel on a open diff, the wheel that's
up will spin twice as fast DOH !!!!!!!!
;D

LOL !!
I've done that too, jacked the whole back up -spun the drive shaft counted ??? spun and counted again ???
then just realized my mistake as the 16 yr old yard boy at the wreckers points out what I'm doing wrong :-[ :P

Smitty,
Could that 4.1 be out of a Vitara/Grand Vitara (the housing will look the same) as I have some info I copied from some where off the net that says they have 4.10- all 5 speeds and 4.88- all autos ?
Just a thougth ?

Well I'm glad I wasn't the only
one to count the diff gears wrong
I won't make that mistake again
;D
Thanks Mud

::) Ok....curiousity got the better of me!!
I counted wrong...out a dot on each tooth as I counted this time!!
ring 37 pinion 8 = 4.62
second one is still a mystery
ring 43 pinion 10 = 4.30?!?!?
I have some pics of the pinion, and of the bigger axle splines, I will try to get them up for display!

Just found it on the net!! :( V6 Grand Vitara has 4.30 gears!
Know anyone that needs one????? ::)
-
Does it have a steel 3rd member
-
Nope...aluminum, just like the Track/Kick
-
There was a 4.30 ratio.

Ha I could have told you that ;)
I gave my 4.3s to a mate with a Sammy to swap out his 3.9s. I drove it over to my house on Saturday to start making a trac bar for him - What a difference 4.3s have made to it !! He'll be back to using 5th gear with his 32's easy 8)
-
Yep, I've got a 4.30 now too from the GV V6 5spd.
-
Need another one?? ;D
