How are you going to break a set? I didn't think you took your Tracker offroading. Awhile back you said you had a beater that you used when going hunting.
-
You mean 5.83s' don't you ???
-
nope 5.38's from a '91 4 door like mine! ;D

Probely won't break a front, but maybe a rear with the posi rear,V-6 and soon to be installed nitrous kit.

5.38s are the low Sammy aftermarket gears,
I thought the only other ratio was 5.62 from
a 1.3 SideKick
-
5.83's are the low sammy gears. Thats why you can still get 5.83 fronts for the sidekick, same gears.
5.38's are a one year only kinda strange size.
95XL& what RPM's do you turn in OD on the hiway? What size tires do you have?
-
I thought the 5.38's were in the 8v LWB.
-
is there a way to tell what the gears are without counting them? markings or tags somewear? I know of a LWB with a 8V and maybe just maybe i will get lucky...
-
Sure, if it's locked, jack up the rear end and spin the drive shaft till the tires turn ONE revolution, counting the driveshaft turns.. number of DS turns is the gearing..
5 and a LITTLE is 5.13  four and a little over half is 4.62.... etc....
if the rear end ISN'T locked, jack up ONE rear wheel and turn the Drive shaft until the tire in the air makes TWO revolutions (to make up for the diff) and count the turns.. same thing as above
You are looking for 5 and TOUCH less than a half turns of the driveshaft

Incorrect they used the 5.38 kick gears for a a few of the early years of the 4 door kicks with manual transmissions. They were more of a Cali. type vehicle but can be found else where. And they are hard to find, I have a set in my hybrid rear sammy axle with a spare also, just in case.
